TROYES, Apr 1 (SW) - Lyon secured a spot in next season's Champions League and move three points closer to their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title with a win over Troyes on Saturday. Lille, meanwhile, got a point closer to second-placed Bordeaux in a draw with Auxerre.
Troyes - Lyon 0-1
Lyon were frustrated by the Troyes defense for the first 75 minutes of this tie, but in-form midfielder Tiago struck to send Gérard Houllier's side closer to a championship.
The next challenge for Lyon will be their second leg tie in the Champions League against AC Milan on Tuesday.
Lille - Auxerre 1-1
Striker Peter Odemwingie gave Lille the lead after just 22 minutes, but Auxerre fired back just six minutes later through Pegguy Luyindula to keep Auxerre in position for a spot in Europe next season.
Lille are six points behind the idle Bordeaux side for second place, but Bordeaux do have a game in hand still over Lille.
Metz - Lens 0-1
Lens, sitting in fourth, are now two points back of Lille for the final Champions League spot in Europe after defeating relegation candidates Metz.
Pierre-Alain Frau fired home from the penalty spot in the 26th minute, and despite having Benoit Assou-Ekotto sent off in the 65th minute, Lens held on to claim the victory.
Nantes - Marseille 1-3
Marseille are also two points adrift of Lille now after they cruised past Nantes thanks to a double by Mamadou Niang.
Niang opened the scoring the 22nd minute and Toifilou Maoulida doubled the advantage 30 minutes later, only to see Kenyan international Dennis Oliech pulled a goal back less than a minutes later.
Marseille, though, regained their two-goal advantage through Niang in the 72nd minute to secure the victory.
Saint-Etienne - Monaco 1-1
Two of the biggest disappointments of the season met at the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard, Saint-Etienne and Monaco playing to a draw.
Monaco, who sit 11th in the table and well out of European contention, went in front in the 56th minute as Ernesto Chevantón gave them the lead, but 13th-placed Saint-Etienne got an equalizer through Bafetibis Gomis with eight minutes to play.
Nice - Strasbourg 3-1
Strasbourg are still mired in the relegation zone after falling away to Nice on Saturday.
It took Nice 61 minutes to take the lead through Florian Jarjat, and Mamadou Bagayoko doubled the advantage a minute later.
Pascal Johansen pulled a goal back from the spot in the 73rd minute for Strasbourg, but Sammy Traoré got a last-gasp insurance goal to seal the win.
Sochaux - Ajaccion 3-1
Bottom side Ajaccio's hopes of survival are slipping away after being beaten by Sochaux on Saturday.
Guirane N'Daw gave Sochaux a lead on 17 minutes before Moumouni Dagano made it 2-0 just 10 minutes later. After Edson pulled a goal back for Ajaccio in the 63rd minute, Brazilian striker Weldon got a third for the home side late on.
