GLASGOW, Sept 2 (SW) – Rangers have completed the signing of former Southampton left back Olivier Bernard on a two-season deal.
The former Lyon and Newcastle United defender had been freed by Southampton and was able to listen to opportunities coming from Rangers and Premiership rivals Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City.
But the prospect of playing in the Champions League seemed to have been to tempting to resist, as Bernard put pen to paper with the Ibrox side on a two-year deal.
"I'm very pleased. It means a lot to me, because Rangers are a massive club. I don't really know very much about Scottish football, but I know about Rangers. I have played in the Champions League before and the prospect of playing there again this season is something that excites me,” admitted a delighted Bernard.
The 25-year-old Frenchman was brought in to Govan by Alex McLeish, in order to replace Michael Ball, who made his Glasgow exit to land a contract with Dutch defending champions PSV Eindhoven a few days earlier.
