Time for reflection - David Moyes

LIVERPOOL, Sep 16 (SW) – Everton boss David Moyes will be looking to solve the growing crisis at Goodison Park following an embarrassing 5-1 defeat in the UEFA Cup first round first leg to Dinamo Bucharest.

The Toffees managed to battle for a share of the spoils at half time, going in with the game locked at 1-1. A second half boilover however, saw the side concede four goals and crash to its worst ever European defeat.

“There will be no public condemnation of any of my players – but privately we will speak together and we will stick together,” said a disappointed Moyes.

“In the first half we did a good job and we could have been in front – but we were not at it in the second half.

“It’s maybe my lowest night as a manager, as bad a night as I have had.”

The Scot gave careful consideration to his thoughts on the match, believing that his side had controlled much of the first half.

“In the first half we controlled the game but in the second half it was too easy for them to score.

“I feel for the fans and it’s my responsibility to raise morale in the camp – it’s my team out there.”

When asked if there was any way back into the tie for last season’s fourth place finishers, Moyes turned his attentions to more immediate matters – such as the trip to Highbury on Monday.

“It’s too far away to look at the second leg.

“I’ll have to see what I can do to make things better, but there are other important games to think about.”

The Everton boss also conceded that he would need to look at the club’s fitness regime, believing there is an alarming trend of players failing to run out games.

“Maybe we have to look at the standard of our fitness because we seem to run out of legs.”

In finishing, Moyes also insisted he would need to take a good, close look at the opening performances at the start of this season.

“We can’t kid ourselves, I felt we played well in the opening part of the season without winning, but last Saturday the performance and the result was not good enough (A 1-0 home loss to Portsmouth).

“After tonight’s performance you have to say we have made a terrible start to the season- and I have to do something about it,” insisted the tactician.
