Turbine Potsdam through to all-German UEFA Women’s Cup final
STOCKHOLM, 27 Nov (SW) – Title defender FFC Turbine Potsdam have recovered amazingly well from the first leg defeat against Djurgården Älvsjö. Turbine won the second leg in Stockholm by 2-5. The Germans now meet their national rivals FFC Frankfurt in the UEFA Women’s Cup Final. In todays match Turbine started very committed and could score early, Aferdita Podvorica, who played for Navina Omilade, could make the 0-1 after a pass from Petra Wimbersky. The first chance for Djurgården Älvsjö had Victoria Svensson, but Peggy Kuznik could clear the ball. A few seconds later a shot by Anja Mittag was saved by Maja Aström. In the 22nd minute the second goal followed, Mittag scored for Potsdam after a corner kick by Podvorica. In the 35th minute Svensson made use of a disastrous mistake by Ariane Hingst and scored the 1-2. Two minutes later this mistake was history, because Jennifer Zietz shot the 1-3 after a freekick by Podvorica. In the second half two goals within one minute followed in the 56th minute. First it was Conny Pohlers, who scored a goal for Potsdam after a great solo run, then Ann-Marie Norlin found the German net in the countermove. A few chances for Djurgården Älvsjö followed but Turbine goalkeeper Nadine Angerer had no problems to clear the situations. The final result of 2-5 was produced by again Mittag, after a solo run three minutes from time. The final of the UEFA Women's Cup will be played in May.
