DNEPROPETROVSK/ZURICH, Oct 20 (SW) - AZ Alkmaar and Middlesbrough lead in Group D of the second round in the UEFA Cup, following away victories over Dnipro and Grasshoppers respectively.

Dnipro - AZ Alkmaar 1-2

Last season's semi-finalists AZ took the lead with a goal from Georgian striker Shota Arveladze in the 14th minute, and added another through Tarik Sektioui in the 52nd. Sergey Matyukhin got one back for Dnipro in the 72nd minute, but AZ managed to hold on to their lead.

Grasshoppers - Middlesbrough 0-1

Only one goal was scored at the match between Grasshoppers and English side Middlesbrough. The visitors broke the deadlock through Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink after just ten minutes, and held on to their lead.
