MONTEVIDEO, Nov 14 (SW) – Australia manager Guus Hiddink has questioned a refereeing decision which ultimately resulted in Uruguay taking a 1-0 lead in their World Cup qualifier.
“I would like to see the replay on the goal against us. In my opinion, the linesman took a decision to give a free kick in our favour but he dropped his flag, I think it broke, and the referee took over and gave it the other way,” said the disappointed Dutchman.
The Australian boss was also disappointed with his side’s failure to find a goal, despite being in control for large sections of the first half.
“I think I have mixed feelings because we controlled the first half rather completely, the second half we were playing the long ball too often so we lost control.
“We should have had in the first-half at least one goal, that was a pity.
'They're very strong in set pieces, apart from that they didn't have that many chances. 1-0 is okay but when you have seen the game, we should have scored one goal.
“'I have 20 hours to think about the next game, they can defend away as well but we have to take some risks at some stage, we have to score.”
