MOSCOW, Nov 7 (SW) - Russian outfit CSKA Moscow have defeated local arch-rivals Dinamo Moscow to secure their first domestic title since 2003.
With Lokomotiv and Spartak breathing down their necks, CSKA Moscow were eager to put an end to a mouth-watering domestic campaign ending, with a difficult trip to local rivals Dinamo Moscow.
Lokomotiv and Spartak having both won their respective weekend fixtures against table bottom Terek (0-3), and 11th Saturn (1-0), playmaker Daniel Carvalho and his team mates had to win to secure their first title since 2003, with one game to spare in this year's Russian campaign.
Aleksei Berezutski fired the visitors into a promising lead in the 55th minute, before Daniel Carvalho added his side's second 17 minutes from the end. Denis Kolodin handed his home side some consolation after netting a late effort in the dying minutes of the encounter, but it was too little too late for Dinamo, as CSKA managed to hold on to their three points and subsequently clinched the title.
