ATHENS/TRONDHEIM, Nov 1 (SW) - Both Olympique de Lyon and Real Madrid are through to the next round of the Champions League after victories over Olympiakos and Rosenborg respectively.
Olympiakos - Olympique de Lyon 1-4
Just three minutes had passed when the score was opened by Babangida. The Nigerian striker received the ball from Kafes, beat the off-side trap and struck past goalkeeper Coupet.
The Greeks would not hold on to their lead however as Juninho levelled in the 41st minute. The Brazilian midfielder sent a free kick over the wall and into the right corner for 1-1.
Three minutes later, the French champions even took the lead. The Norwegian forward John Carew collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area and got past a defender to strike past goalie Giannou.
With ten minutes played in the second half, Malian midfielder Diarra passed the ball to Carew, whose shot was blocked by Diannou. However, Diarra stood in the right place to take advantage of the rebound and give Lyon a more comfortable lead.
This lead became even more comfortable when Carew scored his second goal two minutes later. This time, a free kick from Juninho was headed in by the Norwegian, who had the ball deflected by Okkas, right past the goalie.
Rosenborg BK - Real Madrid 0-2
Rosenborg were unfortunate in the 26th minute when an effort from Robinho was saved by Espen Johnsen, but the goalkeeper only managed to palm the ball onto teammate Dorsin's thigh, before it bounced back into the goal.
With four minutes left to play in the first half, Dorsin attempted to stop Robinho from causing troubles again, but his tackle sent the ball towards Guti, who could easily score from close range.
With two games left to play in the first round of the Champions League, Lyon are through with the maximum amount of twelve points. Madrid are second with nine and advance as well.
