MARSEILLE, Jul 30 (SW) - Marseille got their 2005/06 Ligue 1 season off to a less-than-perfect start as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Bordeaux on Saturday.
Marseille - Bordeaux 0-2
Coming off of a disappointing season in Ligue 1, Marseille's 2005/06 campaign
got off to a terrible start as they fell 2-0 at home to Bordeaux and played
much of the second half with ten men.
Bordeaux youngster Julien Faubert put the visitors on top at the Stade
Vélodrome just after a quarter-hour was played when he struck home on a volley
after a cross from Jean-Claude Darcheville.
Just eight minutes after the match was restarted for the second half, Marseille
were reduced to ten men when Frédéric Dehu was sent off after a tackle from
behind on Maroune Chamakh and Bordeaux got a second goal near the end from
Pierre Ducasse to seal the three points.
Lille - Rennes 1-0
Lille, who were runners-up a year ago, began their season on a winning note with a scoreline which served them well last, 1-0. Their victim this time was UEFA Cup qualifiers Rennes.
The lone goal of the match was scored in the 38th minute by midfielder Jean Makoun, just his second Ligue 1 goal since joining the Lille first team beack in 2002.
Lille will play in the Champions League group stage this season.
Nancy - Monaco 0-1
Former Champions League finalists Monaco scraped out an opening day win away to promoted side and nine-man Nancy, giving Didier Deschamps' side a winning start to the campaign.
Ex-Juventus player Olivier Kapo netted the game's only goal in the 69th minute at Nancy's Stade Marcel Picot before Elle Kroupi and Mickaël Chretien were both sent off in the final quarter-hour for Nancy.
Sochaux - Toulouse 0-1
Tunisia international Francileudo dos Santos was the hero for Toulouse as they snatched three points away from home in a 1-0 win over Sochaux.
Dos Santos scored in the 14th minute to give Toulouse their first win over Sochaux since a 3-0 triumph in January of 2000.
Saint-Etienne - Ajaccio 0-0
After their early exit in the Intertoto Cup, AS Saint-Etienne looked to improve on last season's sixth-place finish, but were held to a 0-0 draw by lowly Ajaccio.
Three yellow cards were issued, but red would be the color of choice in another scoreless game on Saturday.
Strasbourg - Auxerre 0-0
Both Strasbourg and Auxerre had a man sent off in their goalless draw on Saturday at La Meinau stadium.
Omar Kalabane, who only transferred to Auxerre from Tunisian side Etoile Sahel a few hourse before kickoff, was dismissed just before the interval. Strasbourg lost their leader, captain Mickaël Pagis, to a red card with six minutes to play.
Nantes - Lens 2-0
Nearly relegated last season, Nantes got off to a flying start this term with a comfortable home win over Lens.
A fourth-minute goal from Gilles Yapi-Yapo and a further strike just two minutes later by Luigi Glombard lifted the home side to a fine three points.
Nice - Troyes 1-1
Troyes fared nicely in their first game since being promoted back to Ligue 1, earning a nice draw away Nice on the southern coast.
Marama Vahirua put Nice in front on 33 minutes only to have Sébastien Dallet's goal cancel it six minutes after the second-half restart.
A red card also appeared in this match as Troyes had to finish the game down a man when Carl Tourenne was sent off in the 78th minute for his second bookable offense of the match.
Le Mans - Lyon Sunday
The first round of the new French season will conclude on Sunday at the Léon Bollée stadium when newly-promoted Le Mans get to kick off their season with an unfancied match against four-times defending champions Lyon.
