France: Auxerre slip to third with loss

17 December 2005 23:50

AUXERRE, Dec 17 (SW) - Auxerre fell at home to Nancy in Ligue 1 on Saturday, allowing Girondins de Bordeaux to leapfrog them into second place in the lead.

Auxerre - Nancy 0-1

Auxerre slipped into third place after Jacques Santini's men were stunned at the Stade l'Abbé-Deschamps by Nancy.

The lone goal of the match came on six minutes when the visitors were awarded a penalty and Mosef Zerka converted to take the lead and their defense held on for full points despite losing Cédric Lecluse to a second booking in the 81st minute.

Bordeaux - Nantes 0-0

Playing on a nasty pitch in Bordeaux, the hosts usurped Auxerre to take second place in the league with a goalless draw.

There was really very little action in the match and Nantes finished with ten players when Aurelien Capoue was dismissed with two minutes remaining in the match for his second yellow card.

Ajaccio - PSG 1-1

It was not a good day for PSG manager Laurent Fournier as his side were held to a disappointing draw at relegation competitors Ajaccio, leaving his side fourth and a distant 13 points behind the leaders heading into the winter break.

Côte d'Ivoire international Bonaventure Kalou had put the Parisians in front on 42 minutes with a nice header, but Ajaccio got level only two minutes later through Romain Rocchi.

Ajaccio are now 13 matches without a win and Fournier has a meeting with PSG officials scheduled for Wednesday.

Strasbourg - Marseille 0-1

Despite a nice comeback on Thursday to dump Crvena Zvezda out of the UEFA Cup, Strasbourg remain mired at the foot of the table after their home loss to Marseille.

Marseille manager Jean Fernandez saw his side jump to fifth in the table after Mamadou Niang's goal on the hour sent them on their way to victory.

Rennes - Saint-Etienne 0-1

Rennes continued their inconsistent league form as they slumped to a home defeat against Saint-Etienne.

Pascal Feindouno's goal on 67 minutes was enough to give Les Verts the victory, but they had to sweat the last few minutes after Herita Ilunga was sent off in the 87th minute.

Troyes - Sochaux 2-1

In a battle of two teams on the wrong end of the table, Troyes came out on top after a second-half goalscoring flurry.

Florian Boucansaud put the home side ahead on 50 minutes and Ziad Jaziri doubled the lead just seven minutes later to make it 2-0. Mickaël Isabey's goal at the death was merely consolation for Sochaux.

Metz - Nice 1-0

Metz clawed their way off the bottom of the table, but remain in the relegation zone, after their 1-0 defeat of Nice at the Stade Saint-Symphorien.

A goal on the hour mark by Stéphane Borbiconi, just Metz's 11th in 19 matches, was enough to see them to just their second win of the season.
