Bolton Wanderers - Sevilla 1-1
Tension was high as fans at the Reebok Stadium knew Besiktas were leading in their match, but substitute Bruno N'Gotty allowed them to breathe a sigh of relief when he smashed home from inside the area after a corner kick fell to him in the 65th minute. Adriano pulled a goal back for the Spaniards in the 77th minute when he got in the end of a ball by José Martí and beat Ian Walker, but the draw was enough to see Bolton through to the next round. Sevilla had already qualified for the Round of 32. Vitória Guimarães - Besiktas 1-3 Needing a win and a Bolton loss to have hope of qualifying, Besiktas managed to do their part, but it was not enough to see them through to the next round. Ibrahim Toraman put in from a corner kick on nine minutes to give Jean Tigana's side the lead, but the Portuguese were level in the 12th minute when Marek Saganowski fired home for 1-1. Souleymane Youla put the Turks back in front just six minutes later when his left boot met Sergen Yalcin's pass and found its way into the net. Toraman put the match out of reach on the hour mark when he headed home Yalcin's free kick. |
