VILLARREAL, Aug 30 (SW) – UEFA Champions League participants Villarreal have signed goalkeeper Sebastian Viera from Uruguayan side Nacional.

The 22-year-old had been hoping to win a deal with Arsenal in the English Premiership, however, the London club pulled out of negotiations sighting concerns over the player’s fitness last month.

Villarreal had been on the lookout for another goalkeeper following the sale of Jose Reina to Liverpool earlier in the summer. Viera will battle with current incumbent, Mariano Barbosa, for a place in the starting eleven.

"For me it is not a problem. More competition is always excellent for the team," insisted Barbosa.

Viera has agreed to terms on a four-year arrangement with the Spanish side.
