Wigan's Skoko given work permit green light

23 August 2005 16:34

WIGAN, Aug 23 (SW) – Premiership newly-promoted outfit Wigan Athletic have finally unveiled Australian international midfielder Josip Skoko as their latest signing.

The 28-year-old had been unable to complete his move to the JJB stadium due to work permit reasons, but the former Hajduk Split and Genclerberligi player has finally been handed the chance to make his debut for the Premiership newcomers.

The Australian ace was quick to put pen to paper and complete the signing of a long-awaited two-year contract with the Latics shortly after his arrival on British soil, and Skoko is now likely to make his debut against Sunderland at the weekend.

"Josip is the first Wigan player ever to require a work permit. It has been a steep learning curve for us but we are delighted we have managed to secure a very talented player for the club,” confirmed Club secretary Stuart Hayton on Wigan’s official website.
