Déhu injury adds to l’OM’s woes

22 August 2005 15:06

MARSEILLE, Aug 22 (SW) – Olympique de Marseille central defender Frédéric Déhu will sit out his side’s InterToto Cup final second leg against Deportivo tomorrow, after picking up a muscular injury.

Winners 2-0 at the Riazor in their first meeting against Marseille, the Spaniards are now considered heavy favourites in the race for an UEFA Cup place this season while manager Jean Fernandez’ worries keep on piling up after Frédéric Déhu was confirmed ruled out of action.

The influential and versatile defender has picked up a muscular problem and rejoined suspended Ferreira on the sidelines, with Fernandez now forced to line up Beye, Meïté, Nakata and Taiwo in defense.

The injury is likely to have added to Fernandez’ woes, following his side’s drastic domestic campaign start, proving to be one of the worst of the southern side in almost 40 years.

With three defeats in four games in this season’s championnat, Marseille are now desperate to get back to winning ways and needless to say the numerous Velodrome fans will be expecting their OM side to bounce back as soon as Tuesday against Deportivo.
