SANTIAGO, Nov 19 (SW) - The national team of Paraguay defeated Chile 1-0 in a match of the South American qualifiers played in the Monumental stadium in Santiago de Chile and are, at the moment, the leaders.

THe match was played with 65.000 fans in the stands and the only goal of the match ws scored by Carlos Humberto Paredes in the 31st minute.

Paraguay had a very solid midfield and the striker Jose Saturnino Cardozo was very dangerous each time he got near Chile's goalkeeper Nelson Tapia.

Chile made a very big effort to reach at least a draw but played against a team that has a great experience with defending a victory, so the coach Juvenal Olmos and nearly all the Chilean players were boo-ed by their supporters.
