Fonseca about deciding to quit football

12 February 2003 00:01

NAPLES, Feb 12 (SW) - Uruguayan striker Daniel Fonseca announced that he retires from football after 15 seasons at teams from Italy, Argentina and his country, and that he will become a football player agent.

"I am going to work together with the footballers agent, Francisco "Paco" Casal, because he has been a teacher for me and I wish to start as soon as possible. I have been told that I will start in March."

Casal is the agent of nearly all the Uruguayan international players, including Fonseca, and his company has the television rights for the Uruguayan championship.

Fonseca, 33 year old, has broken his contract a few days ago, with the Italian team Como, and gave his reasons for doing that:

"I don't want money that I don't sweat for. I was under contract until June and would have been paid 600.000 Dollars; I preferred to leave."

"My decision to leave Como was because the coach said that he wasn't going to have me in his plans."
