We're underway at the Stade Velodrome.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Ligue 1 clash between Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade Velodrome.
Marseille have been in decent form in Ligue 1 this season, taking 17 points from their nine matches. However, they did allow two leads to slip against Strasbourg last time out and were indebted to a late goal from Kostas Mitroglou to rescue a point in the contest. They're sixth in the table and will need a strong performance this evening against the class of the division.
PSG have been dominant in Ligue 1 thus far in the season, dropping only two points in their opening nine matches. That result came in a goalless draw against Montpellier one month ago; since then they've crushed Bordeaux and edged past Dijon thanks to a late strike from Thomas Meunier. The Champions League has been the same story as Ligue 1, with PSG hammering all three of their group opponents thus far, putting four past Anderlecht during the week.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Marseille have made seven changes from their win over Vitoria Guimaraes in the Europa League during the week. Hiroki Sakai, Rolando and Jordan Amavi come into the back four, while Dimitri Payet, Florian Thauvin and Andre Zambo Anguissa return to the midfield. Kostas Mitroglou replaces Valere Germain leading the line.
PSG have made two changes from their win over Anderlecht. Thiago Silva and Thomas Meunier come back into the back four, with Dani Alves and Presnel Kimpembe dropping out of the starting line-up.
STAT ATTACK! PSG are unbeaten in their last 14 competitive games against Marseille, winning 12 of the matches.
FLASHBACK! PSG won this fixture 5-1 last season as goals from Marquinhos, Cavani, Lucas, Julian Draxler and Blaise Matuidi secured the victory, with Rod Fanni notching a consolation goal for the home side.
The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
HALF-TIME: MARSEILLE 1-1 PSG
It's all square at the break at the Stade Velodrome. Luiz Gustavo put Marseille ahead with a brilliant strike from distance, but Neymar responded for Paris Saint-Germain to bring them level. It has been a game of few chances as neither side has been at their best. Both managers will want to see an improvement in quality in the second half.
FULL-TIME: MARSEILLE 2-2 PSG
What an ending! Marseille were denied a famous victory as Edinson Cavani scored a wonderful free-kick at the death, despite Paris Saint-Germain being reduced to 10 men after Neymar was sent off. The home side were in front twice in the contest - first when Luiz Gustavo scored a brilliant left-footed strike from distance, only for Neymar to equalise. However, Rudi Garcia's men forged ahead late in the contest as Clinton N'Jie found Florian Thauvin to regain the lead with 12 minutes to play. Neymar was then booked twice in the space of two minutes to receive his marching orders. PSG could have folded, but Cavani delivered for his team to preserve their unbeaten record in Ligue 1 this season with a super strike.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
