And we're off! Dortmund get us underway, attacking from left to right.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Bundesliga clash between Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen. My name is Ben Cullimore and I will be keeping you up to date with all of the action from Signal Iduna Park.
Today marks the last time that Jurgen Klopp will lead out Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park, and, as a result, it’s guaranteed to be an emotional afternoon as the home fans say a fond farewell to the man that has brought them so much success over the past seven years. His side are in good form at the moment as well, with just one defeat in their last five league games presenting them with the opportunity to finish as high as sixth if they are victorious today and Augsburg slip up against in-form Borussia Monchengladbach.
Not only is this afternoon’s clash one that brings an end to the Jurgen Klopp era, it is also vital in deciding who will claim the final Europa League qualification spot. Just one point is all that the hosts require to stay in seventh place and enter the competition, regardless of next weekend’s DFB Cup final result against Wolfsburg, whilst Bremen need to win today and hope that Dortmund lift the cup if they are to qualify for a European tournament for the first time in five years.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon…
Jurgen Klopp has decided to make three changes to the Dortmund side that started last weekend’s 2-1 defeat against Wolfsburg, with Roman Weidenfeller, Mats Hummel and Marco Reus all returning to the starting line-up to replace Mitchell Langerak, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Kevin Kampl, respectively.
Meanwhile, Bremen boss Viktor Skripnik has also made three alterations to the side that lost 2-0 at home to Borussia Monchengladbach, with Sebastian Prodl, Philipp Bargfrede and Davie Selke making way for Marnon-Thomas Busch, Assani Lukimya and Felix Kroos.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off. The Dortmund fans are in fine voice as they unveil a beautifully constructed Jurgen Klopp tifo and show their appreciation to their departing manager.
HALF-TIME: BORUSSIA DORTMUND 3-1 WERDER BREMEN
What an action-packed first half that was! Jurgen Klopp will be more than happy with his side's position as they head into the half-time break with a two-goal lead thanks to an excellent display from their forward line. Kagawa has been particularly impressive, scoring once and setting up twice already, whilst Reus, Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang have looked full of energy in front of goal, which has caused the under-pressure Bremen defenders plenty of problems time and time again.
The two teams are making their way back out onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: BORUSSIA DORTMUND 3-2 WERDER BREMEN
Despite the late scare, Dortmund are able to hold onto their lead to bring Jurgen Klopp's domestic reign to an end with three valuable points, confirming their place in next season's Europa League no matter what happens in the DFB Cup final next weekend. At times, it was a vintage performance from the hosts, who looked excellent in front of goal and were unlucky not to score two or three more goals with all of the chances that they were presented.
Klopp makes his way around the pitch with his players to applaud the fans, all of whom have stayed behind to show their appreciation to a manager that has brought them so much success during his time at the club.
Today's victory means that Dortmund finish the season in seventh place with 46 points, whilst Bremen end the campaign just behind with 43.
My name is Ben Cullimore and it's been an absolute pleasure describing all of the action to you this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye!
