WHAT A SAVE FROM SORRENTINO! Inter are denied a goal at the death as Osvaldo meets Guarin's pinpoint cross before directing a header towards goal. It looks destined to head towards the top right-hand corner but Sorrentino stretches his fingertips to turn it behind spectacularly for a corner.
90' +3
Inter's substitutions have failed to provide the ideal impact today and Hernanes sums up his performance by blazing over from outside the box.
90' +2
Palermo continue to threaten late on and Belotti flicks on Daprela's long throw towards Dybala. The Argentine striker goes for the spectacular but his acrobatic effort is well stopped by Handanovic.
90' +1
Dodô gets yellow.
Quaison is looking to make an impression from the bench though he cannot find a late winner as he fires into the side netting from a narrow angle. Time is running out for both sides to snatch three points here.
90'
Palermo are cranking up the pressure in the closing stages but Hernanes produces a crucial header to deny a pink shirt from connecting with Barretto's inviting free kick. There will be FOUR minutes of stoppage time.
88'
GOAL DISALLOWED FOR PALERMO! Barretto floats a terrific pass over the Inter defence which Belotti runs onto. The Italian striker has just Handanovic to beat but he cannot control the pass first time, allowing Nagatomo to regain possession. Belotti looks to atone for his miscontrol as he tussles with Nagatomo, winning the ball back and firing into the bottom corner. However, the referee harshly adjudges that it was a foul on the Japanese and Inter escape.
86'
Dybala has caused the Inter defence plenty of problems with his movement though it seems he will not add to his Serie A tally today as he cuts the ball onto his preferred left boot outside the box before ballooning an effort high over the crossbar.
85'
Morganella has got forward excellently for Palermo down the right but he fails to pick out the run of Belotti at the back post and the attack breaks down.
83'
R. Quaison enters the game and replaces F. Vázquez.
Palacio's first piece of action is to defend a set-piece and the Argentine striker gets up well to head clear Barretto's corner from the left. The counter-attack is on for the Nerazzurri but Hernanes fails to pick out the run of Palacio and he gifts possession straight back to the hosts.
81'
Rigoni has enjoyed a tireless box-to-box display in the midfield and he decides to try his luck from distance but can only slice his effort wide of the target. Will we see a late winner at the Stadio Renzo Barbera?
Minute
Description
80'
A. Ranocchia gets yellow.
79'
R. Palacio enters the game and replaces M. Kovačić.
78'
It is now Inter's turn to attack and Guarin is twice involved, first firing over from distance before he then bursts past Daprela and strikes a low shot into the legs of Sorrentino. Hernanes has not made the desired impact since coming off the Nerazzurri bench and the Brazil international blazes an effort high over the crossbar.
75'
CHANCE FOR PALERMO! Iachini's side have sprung to life in the past few minutes and Vazquez takes advantage of Ranocchia's poor positioning to meet Morganella's teasing cross, but he can only volley wide of the target. That really should have been 2-1 to the Rosanero.
74'
F. Daprelà enters the game and replaces A. Lazaar.
73'
PALERMO HIT THE BAR! Belotti and Dybala combine excellently to set up Vazquez on the left corner of the box. The Argentine attempts to arrow a shot into the far corner but Ranocchia flings himself in front of the 25-year-old's effort, deflecting it onto the crossbar. The danger is not over for Inter as Palermo regain possession but Medel is sure that Vazquez's shot is going wide and allows the Argentine's second attempt to bobble narrowly past the post.
71'
Morganella shows good persistance to win the ball back for Palermo just outside the Inter box. However, the Swiss wing-back suffers a lapse in communication with Dybala and a promising attack breaks down. It's all gone rather flat for the Rosanero in attack.
69'
Palermo operate a high defensive line and it works to good effect as they prevent Icardi from latching onto Guarin's cleverly-disguised reverse pass. The Rosanero then enjoy a rare second-half venture forward but Lazaar's effort is easily blocked by Nagatomo.
67'
STAT: Inter have not won away from home in their last three Serie A games, drawing one and losing two, while scoring just a single goal in those three fixtures.
66'
A. Belotti enters the game and replaces F. Bolzoni.
65'
Hernanes enters the game and replaces Juan Jesus.
64'
Guarin has produced good service from dead-ball situations today but he cannot do so on this occasion as he wastefully sends a free kick straight out of play from a promising position. Both sides are preparing substitutes on the touchline.
62'
The Palermo supporters demand a red card when Dybala goes down under a challenge from Juan Jesus. The Brazilian defender has already been booked but the referee resists the urge to brandish a second yellow and gives him a final lecture.
60'
Inter continue to grow into this match and Medel sees his shot well blocked by Feddal after meeting Kovacic's lay-off. Iachini must be contemplating some substitutions at this point.
59'
CHANCE FOR INTER! Osvaldo has been a peripheral figure for large periods of this game though he nearly produces an assist when he chips a neat pass towards the back post. Guarin is ghosting into the box to meet it but the Colombian somehow fails to make contact with the ball and Palermo survive.
57'
Rigoni receives a brief spell of treatment after Guarin's shot strikes him in the ribs. Inter take advantage of the stoppage in play to introduce Dodo in place of D'Ambrosio.
56'
Dodô enters the game and replaces D. D'Ambrosio.
55'
Guarin is beginning to have more of an influence on this game and he escapes from Rigoni down the right before his inviting cross is slightly too heavy for Icardi. Can Walter Mazzarri's side make their pressure count?
53'
The Nerazzurri are starting to dictate the tempo of this game though Icardi cannot put them ahead as he fires over from distance. Guarin then embarks on a mazy run but it comes to nothing as he goes down theatrically outside the box and play continues.
51'
Inter have the ball in the net but it won't count. Guarin delivers another teasing set-piece towards the back post which Osvaldo flicks on to Icardi who volleys past Sorrentino expertly. However, the linesman's flag is controversially raised again, with Osvaldo deemed to be too aggressive when contesting the initial header.
49'
STAT: The last eight Serie A matches between these two sides have seen a total of 35 goals, an average of 4.4 per game.
48'
M. Morganella gets yellow.
Morganella enjoyed a good first half though he goes into the book after cynically tripping Guarin on the counter-attack. You get the feeling that the next goal could prove decisive here.
46'
The teams re-emerge from the tunnel for the second half and Inter are immediately put on the back foot despite kicking off. Dybala delivers a dangerous low cross from the left and Handanovic is forced to make a smart reflex stop to prevent Juan Jesus turning the ball into his own net.
44'
L. Rigoni gets yellow.
VIDIC DENIED! That goal has given Inter a renewed sense of confidence and they threaten again at the end of half. Guarin spots the run of Vidic and his precise cross is headed beyond Sorrentino and into the back of the net by the Serbian. However, the linesman's flag is raised against Osvaldo who was deemed to be interfering with play. Inter have every right to feel aggrieved about that decision.
42'
M. Kovačić has scored a goal for Inter Milan!
KOVACIC MAKES IT 1-1! Inter have hardly threatened in this game but it is their Croatian prodigy who has brought them level. The 20-year-old starts the move as he feeds Osvaldo before looking for the return pass. The Southampton loanee's pass deflects off Rigoni's shins before kindly falling into Kovacic's path and he makes no mistake, coolly finessing the ball beyond Sorrentino's grasp and into the bottom corner.
40'
Kovacic goes close to splitting open the Palermo defence as he controls Juan Jesus' pass before attempting to pick out Icardi's run. However, Feddal spots the danger and makes a crucial last-ditch interception to prevent the Argentine from having a clear route to goal.
38'
STAT: In the last 11 meetings Palermo have kept just one clean sheet against Inter, conceding 25 goals in that run.
36'
G. Medel gets yellow.
Tempers are beginning to flare here and Rigoni goes to ground inside the penalty box after an altercation with Medel and Handanovic. The corner is finally taken from the right but Inter clear the danger easily.
34'
Lazaar has got forward well from left wing-back but he fails to pick out a teammate on this occasion despite plenty to aim for in the box. Barretto delivers a corner from the left but Vidic rises highest to turn it behind for another corner.
33'
Juan Jesus gets yellow.
32'
CHANCE FOR INTER! Sorrentino has been a spectator for large periods of this game but he scrambles frantically across his goalmouth on this occasion as Guarin sends a trademark thunderbolt agonisingly past the post. That would have been some goal from the Colombian!
31'
Palermo are dominating the midfield battle at the moment and Rigoni steals back possession for the Rosanero before feeding Vazquez. The Argentine spots the run of Dybala and picks out his fellow countryman excellently, however he cannot find a pink shirt with his cutback and Inter survive.
29'
We are approaching the half-hour mark in the Sicilian capital and Inter are yet to test Sorrentino in the Palermo goal. Walter Mazzarri remains a composed man on the touchline but he cannot be happy with what he has seen from his side so far.
27'
Palermo are certainly not afraid to put themselves about and Andelkovic is the latest player to execute a strong, yet fair, challenge on Kovacic. Inter's Croatian playmaker has cut a frustrated figure so far and Iachini's gameplan is working to perfection.
25'
Barretto attempts to release Dybala with a floated ball over the head of Vidic. However, the Argentine cannot get on the end of it as the former Manchester United captain reads the danger well before ushering the ball back to his goalkeeper.
23'
Inter have looked devoid of ideas so far and Nagatomo sends a hopeless cross straight into the gloves of Sorrentino. There is very little movement from the Nerazzurri attack at the moment and it has all been too easy for Palermo in the first quarter of this match.
21'
Palermo continue to look dangerous and they threaten again when Terzi takes advantage of a loose ball in the Inter box. However, the centre-back cannot keep his effort down and he hooks a shot over the crossbar.
20'
Inter are at sixes and sevens at the back and Nagatomo cheaply concedes possession under pressure from Morganella. Lazaar delivers a teasing cross from the left but the Japanese wing-back recovers well to prevent Morganella from heading in from close range. Moments later, Barretto finds space on the edge of the box but he slices his effort straight into the face of Ranocchia.
18'
Inter have struggled to make their mark on this match so far and it is Palermo who look the most dangerous side going forward. Kovacic is yet to make an impact on this game, with Icardi receiving little service in attack.
16'
VAZQUEZ GOES CLOSE! The Argentine has enjoyed a lively start to this game and he drives towards goal once again, with Ranocchia backing off. Vazquez lets fly from just outside the box but his effort deflects off the Inter captain before bouncing inches past the post. Handanovic was getting nowhere near that one.
14'
STAT: No team has scored more Serie A goals against Palermo than Inter (107).
13'
Guarin wriggles away from his marker outside the box and shapes to shoot. However, Barretto reads the Colombian's intentions expertly and produces a good sliding challenge to regain possession for the Rosanero.
12'
Osvaldo has endured a shaky start to the match and after suffering that early knock, he has given away possession every time since he has received the ball. Walter Mazzarri has a decision to make here: does he keep the Southampton loanee on and hope he runs it off or does he introduce Rodrigo Palacio to the action?
10'
Nagatomo gets forward excellently down the left and he delivers a deep cross which Sorrentino fails to deal with. Palermo manage to shuffle the ball behind for a corner and from the resulting set-piece, Nagatomo skews a shot wide from the edge of the box.
8'
There is plenty of bite about Palermo's early performance here and the midfield three in particular have put themselves about with some strong challenges and an impressive pressing game. Giuseppe Iachini has never lost against the Nerazzurri and he will be delighted with how his side have started here.
6'
Inter have struggled to settle here and Morganella does excellently to skip away from the challenge of Nagatomo down the right. However, he cannot pick out the run of Dybala in the middle and Vidic is in the right position to intercept and clear the ball to safety.
5'
That goal has really lifted the spirits of the home crowd and they cheer loudly again as Rigoni produces a strong challenge on Osvaldo which leaves the former Roma striker writhing in agony on the turf. Incidentally, that Vazquez goal was the first that Inter have conceded in six outings this season. Walter Mazzarri urges his side to calm down on the touchline.
3'
F. Vázquez has scored a goal for Palermo!
VAZQUEZ GIVES PALERMO THE LEAD! It's an absolute howler from Vidic as he dallies in possession inside his own box before trying to feed the ball back to Handanovic. However, Vazquez reads the Serbian's intentions excellently and nips in to steal possession before firing beyond the Nerazzurri goalkeeper. What was Vidic thinking?
2'
Inter make a bright start with Feddal tripping D'Ambrosio in a dangerous position outside the box. Guarin lays the free kick short to Medel but the Chilean blazes an effort over the crossbar.
1'
The referee blows his whistle and Palermo, in their traditional pink shirts, get the game underway. Can they earn their first league win of the season?
Hello and welcome to this live Serie A commentary between Palermo and Inter. Giuseppe Iachini's side are still searching for their first win back in the Italian top flight following their promotion from Serie B last season though today they face an in-form Nerazzurri outfit who have kept clean sheets in all five of their competitive matches this season. I'm Max Bentley and I'll be keeping you informed of all the action from the Stadio Renzo Barbera.
Palermo can consider themselves unfortunate to have only taken one point from their first two Serie A fixtures as they were denied an opening-day win at home to Sampdoria in stoppage time before succumbing to an undeserved 2-1 defeat at Hellas Verona on Monday. Rosanero president Maurizio Zamparini is famous for his impatience with coaches but you suspect that he will allow Iachini a fair amount of time to let his new signings bed in.
As for Inter, they have enjoyed a promising start to the season, following up an opening 0-0 draw at Torino with a 7-0 thrashing of Sassuolo. Walter Mazzarri's side also defeated Dnipro 1-0 in the Europa League on Thursday and the Nerazzurri finally look like they have a well-balanced squad which is capable of challenging for a Champions League spot once again.
PALERMO TEAM NEWS: Giuseppe Iachini makes two changes to the side which lost 2-1 to Verona on Monday. Achraf Lazaar replaces Eros Pisano at left wing-back while Michel Morganella earns his first start of the season as fellow Swiss defender Fabio Daprela drops to the bench. The Rosanero are without Ezequiel Munoz, Giancarlo Gonzalez, Enzo Maresca and Francesco Della Rocca through injury though Ivory Coast international Sol Bamba could make his debut from the bench.
INTER TEAM NEWS: Walter Mazzarri makes five changes to the side which defeated Dnipro 1-0 in midweek. Mateo Kovacic and Yuto Nagatomo have both recovered from injury to regain starting places, with Dodo and Hernanes dropping to the bench. Gary Medel, Andrea Ranocchia and Pablo Osvaldo also return to the starting lineup while Mauro Icardi continues in attack, looking to build on his tally of six goals from his opening four appearances in all competitions.
INTER (3-5-2): Handanovic; Ranocchia, Vidic, Juan Jesus; D'Ambrosio, Guarin, Medel, Kovacic, Nagatomo; Osvaldo, Icardi.
STAT: Inter have played Palermo 52 times in Serie A, winning 27, drawing 19 and losing six. The last time these two sides met in Serie A, Palermo ran out 1-0 winners in April 2013.
The two teams emerge from the tunnel to a good reception from the home crowd. Captains Edgar Barretto and Andrea Ranocchia begin the handshakes between the respective sides. Today's referee is Paolo Valeri.
HT: Palermo 1-1 Inter. Giuseppe Iachini's side have been terrific in the first half and their early pressure was rewarded when Franco Vazquez capitalised upon a sloppy error by Nemanja Vidic. Stefano Sorrentino has not made a save in the first half but he was forced to pick the ball out of his net after Mateo Kovacic equalised shortly before half time with an excellent effort from outside the box. And it nearly got worse for the hosts moments before the half-time whistle when Vidic's header was controversially chalked off. It's all square at the break.
FT: Palermo 1-1 Inter. Giuseppe Iachini's side earn their second point of the season after a tightly-contested affair in the Sicilian capital. The Rosanero frustrated their opponents with a combative pressing game and they took the lead when Franco Vazquez capitalised on Nemanja Vidic's error. However, the Nerazzurri fought back and Mateo Kovacic provided the equaliser with a neat finish from distance. Both teams saw goals controversially disallowed but on the balance of play, a point is perhaps a fair outcome.
So, Inter continue their unbeaten start to the season and they leapfrog Udinese into sixth place with Palermo jumping above Sassuolo into 16th. Walter Mazzarri's side will hope to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Atalanta at home next weekend while Giuseppe Iachini's men will be searching for their first league win when they travel to an out-of-form Napoli. Thanks for joining me, Max Bentley, on this live commentary. Until next time, goodbye.
