Baines looks to break into the box but Elabdellaoui gets across him to neutralise the danger and see the ball through to Nyland. Into the final 60 second now.
90' +1
Into four minutes of stoppage time now as England look to hang on. Norway have struggled to create much since Rooney's goal and look set for defeat now.
89'
R. Lambert enters the game and replaces D. Sturridge.
Superb tackle from Johansen denies England a second goal as the hosts counter through Sterling before Milner gets a shot away. Lambert replaces Sturridge for the home side.
88'
M. Pedersen enters the game and replaces R. Jenssen.
Yet another Norwegian change as Jenssen is replaced by Pedersen for the last couple of minutes.
86'
Chambers looks to get forward down the right-hand side but cannot keep the ball in play. Meanwhile Sterling is named the sponsors' man of the match following a fine showing, especially in the first half.
84'
P. Jagielka enters the game and replaces G. Cahill.
Jagielka is the next man to come off the England bench as he replaces Cahill for the closing stages. Hart takes the armband from the Chelsea defender.
83'
A good challenge from Delph on the edge of his own area stops Elyounoussi in his tracks as he shaped to shoot on the egde of the area. The Aston Villa man has impressed.
81'
C. Chambers enters the game and replaces J. Stones.
England hand out their second debut of the evening as Stones, who did clutch his hamstring not long ago, is replaced by Chambers.
80'
Delph and Welbecj have certainly made an impact and added some impetus to England's attacking play. Encouraging signs for Hodgson.
78'
O. Kamara enters the game and replaces T. Elyounoussi.
England again threaten as Delph and Sturridge combine before Henderson curls an effort over the bar from the edge of the area. Norway make yet another change as Elyounoussi is replaced by Kamara.

Description
76'
H. Nielsen enters the game and replaces J. King.
Norway make yet another change as King is replaced by Nielsen up front for the final 14 minutes.
75'
Welbeck's introduction has given England a lift, and he almost create a chance for Delph as he gets to the byline on the left before drilling a ball into the six-yard box that the debutant just can't reach.
73'
GOOD SAVE! Welbeck shows great strength to turn the Norway defence and get a shot away that Nyland has to get down quickly to parry. Excellent play from the substitute.
71'
Noticeably there were plenty of cheers when Welbeck's name was announced over the tannoy. There must be a few Arsenal fans in following his deadline day move. Cahill has taken on the captain's armband in Rooney's absence.
70'
D. Welbeck enters the game and replaces W. Rooney.
69'
F. Delph enters the game and replaces J. Wilshere.
J. Milner enters the game and replaces A. Oxlade-Chamberlain.
M. Elyounoussi enters the game and replaces P. Skjelbred.
Changes for both teams. Skjelbred is replaced by Elyounoussi for Norway, while Delph, Welbeck and Milner replace Rooney, Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain.
68'
Penalty goal scored by W. Rooney for England!
GOAL!!! ROONEY GIVES ENGLAND THE LEAD! Emphatic from the new skipper as he went to Nyland's left, and though the goalkeeper went the right way he had no chance of stopping it. That's 41 goals for the Three Lions for the Manchester United captain.
67'
PENALTY! Third time lucky for England as Sterling gets away from Ebdellaoui before drawing the foul, and the referee gets that one right. Rooney to step up from 12 yards...
65'
Sturridge is forced into receiving some treatment for a small cut on his head, and the England bench are beginning to brief the likes of Milner as they plan some changes.
63'
Sterling and Oxlade-Chamberlain have barely had a kick in this second half, and the England substitutes are beginning to warm-up on the touchline. Three players - Delph, Rose and Chambers - will be hoping to be given an opportunity to make their debuts from the bench.
61'
Half-hearted appeals for a penalty by England as Sturridge goes down under a challenge from Nordtveit. The refere again sees nothing untoward and signals for a goal kick.
59'
Hodgson has made his way out of the dugout to send some instructions out to his players. Their play since the break has been based on defence with Norway threatening almost since minute one.
57'
A. Konradsen enters the game and replaces M. Møller Dæhli.
Daehli is stretchered from the field with a cast around his knee and is replaced by Konradsen. The Cardiff man must be a doubt to face Italy on Tuesday now.
55'
Daehli is now stricken on the Wembley turf after getting his knee caught in the ground as he challenged Sterling. The stretcher is out and the visitors may be forced into another change here.
53'
GOOD SAVE! Hart to the rescue again as an error from Cahill allows King a free run in on goal, and the Manchester City stopper does well to save with his feet as the striker looked to square the ball for Daehli in the six-yard box.
52'
Rooney looks to break through the middle following a Wilshere ball forward, but Nyland is off his line quickly to clear from the edge of his area. Hosts haven't got going in this second half.
50'
GREAT SAVE! Hart has to be at full strength to keep the score level. King gets up above Stones to head powerfully goalwards, and the England goalkeeper dives well to his left to tip the effort away. Almost a Wembley goal for the Blackburn Rovers striker.
48'
Plenty of possession for Norway at the start of the second period, with England looking to close them down as much as possible. The longer it stays goalless the more confidence the visitors will gain.
46'
In fact, no changes to either side as Norway kick-off the second period...
45' +1
Into two minutes of stoppage time at the end of the first half, with Norway looking to push England back. They can't work themselves a shooting opportunity though.
44'
Not long to go until half-time as England struggle to break the Norway defence down. As the half has gone on frustration has grown both on the pitch and in the stands.
42'
Replays are inconclusive on those England penalty appeals as it seems Wilshere went down too early as Nordtveit went diving in. It seems as if that has led to no contact between the pair despite the rash nature of the challenge.
40'
PENALTY? NO! Appeals from the home side as Wilshere goes down on the edge of the area, but the referee isn't interested and waves play on.
38'
Cardiff winger Daehli looks to swing over a cross from the right but his ball flies straight out of play for a goal kick. Norway still to really threaten the England defence.
36'
P. Flo enters the game and replaces M. Linnes.
Linnes cannot continue, and he is replaced by Flo, whose relatives include former Chelsea striker Tore Andre Flo.
35'
Norway may be forced into an early change here as Linnes calls for treatment having taken a knock. The left-back has done well up against Oxlade-Chamberlain thus far.
33'
Stones gets forward on the right and drills in a cross that is just too high for Sturridge. Sterling looks to keep it in at the back post but his touch only knocks the ball out for a goal kick.
32'
Over a third of the way into the contest and Nyland is still yet to make a save. The crowd are growing restless, and this showing is unlikely to fill anymore seats moving forward.
30'
Baines is soon involved in attack as Sterling feeds him with a well-weighted pass. The Everton man breaks into the box but his low cross is well blocked at the near post.
29'
A bit of concern for the hosts as Baines stays down having been caught by Elyounoussi. Eventually he gets to his feet, and in a competitive fixture that may well have led to the Norway man having his name taken.
27'
Norway come forward as Jenssen looks to fire in a low cross from the left, but Cahill and Stones combine to clear. England's defence untroubled as yet.
25'
JUST OVER! Better from England as Sterling hits a fine pass over the Norway defence that Sturridge runs onto. The Liverpool man brings it down before looking to lob Nyland, but his effort lands on the roof of the net.
23'
The tempo does seem to have dropped a little in the last five minutes, with England defending with a little less intensity. It is worth remembering five members of this team played on Sunday and only trained with the squad for the first time on Tuesday.
21'
Almost halfway through the first half and Hodgson will be satisfied with their efforts though frustrated they are yet to test Nyland in the Norway goal.
19'
Oxlade-Chamberlain is winning his battle with Linnes as he again gets away from his marker to deliver a cross, but there is no England player to get on the end of it. Frustrating for the Arsenal man.
17'
From the resulting corner Jones looks to guide a header goalwards from the back post, but it passes harmlessly wide. England going through the gears at the moment.
16'
Now it is the pair of Arsenal players who combine as Wilshere's chipped ball finds Oxlade-Chamberlain, but Linnes gets back well to put the ball out for a corner.
15'
Liverpool duo Sturridge and Sterling combine to devastating effect as the pair trade passes before the former's shot from 15 yards is well blocked. The half-empty Wembley was ready to celebrate as they saw the striker shape to shoot.
13'
Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sterling are both showing a willingness to come off their respective flanks and pick up the ball in central positions. As yet Baines and Stones haven't taken advantage of the space they would be allowed.
11'
Norway are proving stubborn opponents and allowing England little room to operate once the ball enters the visitors' half of the field. They look as if they will be a tough nut to crack for the Three Lions.
9'
Oxlade-Chamberlain finds space on the right but his cross is too high for Sturridge in the middle and the opportunity is gone. The England attacking quartet are beginning to click in the opening stages.
7'
Sterling looks to turn away from Elabdellaoui on the England left but instead concedes a free-kick as the tussles with the full-back. The Liverpool youngster certainly looks in the mood.
5'
Wilshere wins a free-kick around 25 yards from goal, but the hosts cannot take advantage as Baines curls his shot high over the crossbar. A poor effort.
3'
England happy to be patient in these early stages, though Sterling and Oxlade-Chamberlain have already caused problems with their pace and direct running.

England kick-off and we are underway...
Hello and welcome to live coverage of England's friendly match against Norway. The Three Lions are still reeling from their disappointing World Cup campaign, and are looking to change their fortunes ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign. I'm Tom Maston and I'll be guiding you through all the action from Wembley.
This isn't quite a new look England given the number of youngsters who travelled to Brazil as part of the World Cup squad. They are without, though, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard following their retirments, and there is a new captain in the shape of Wayne Rooney. Whether he can inspire them to a brighter future remains to be seen.
Norway arrive at Wembley sitting 53rd in the Fifa rankings after failing to qualify for the World Cup, but the hope is that a number of young players will help them push towards qualification for France 2016. Few fancy them to spring an upset this evening, but they will certainly be no pushovers.
Before we go any futher, the two team line-ups have been announced ahead of this evening's encounter...
Everton defender John Stones makes his first England start at right-back with Glen Johnson and Chris Smalling both injured while Phil Jones plays at centre-back. With Theo Walcott, Ross Barkley and Adam Lallana all ruled out, an attacking trio of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Raheem Sterling and Rooney will look to support lone striker Daniel Sturridge.
Among the England substitutes is Fabian Delph, who could make his international debut should he be called upon later in the evening. The Aston Villa midfielder has impressed over the past 12 months, and an impressive showing here could see him become a regular in the national squad for years to come. His fellow new call-up, Jack Colback, won't be available this evening after picking up a knock in training.
Plenty of eyes will be on England's new central midfield axis this evening, as Jordan Henderson and Jack Wilshere look to build up an understanding that Gerrard and Lampard never seemed able to do. Both have had their critics in their time, but a good showing tonight could be the beginning of a fine partnership.
Much of the talk in the media in the build-up to tonight's action has centred on the fans, or indeed the lack of fans, who will be in attendance at Wembley this evening. The Football Association have sold around half of their tickets for the encounter, and with ten minutes to go until kick-off there are swathes of empty seats around England's national stadium. An inspired showing may well see the supporters coming back through the gate as the year goes on.
The two teams are in the tunnel ahead of kick-off and England's players certainly look focused. They have plenty of questions to answer after the World Cup, and this is their first opportunity to answer them.
Not long to go until kick-off as the two teams sing their respective national anthems. Norway's is belted out with passion by the few who have travelled to support the visitors, before a half-full Wembley rises to 'God Save The Queen'.
The pre-match pleasantries are over and we are ready to go at Wembley. Can England put the World Cup behind them or will the hangover from Brazil affect them? We're about to find out...
The half-time whistle is greeted with polite applause, but in truth that was a pretty drab 45 minutes. England have had the better of things without testing Nyland, and will need to pick up the tempo to break an organised Norway side down after the break.
As is the way in friendlies we are expecting plenty of substitutions in the second period, with a fair few possibly coming at the start of the second period. I'll be back in ten minutes to see if either side can make change the pattern of this one.
The two teams are making their way out onto the field for the second half. We await any changes to the two line-ups...
Muted cheers greet the final whistle and England have won for the first time in six games. The ghosts of Brazil certainly haven't been banished, but Rooney's penalty has at least secured a morale-boosting win.
England now head to Basle to begin their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign against Switzerland needing to answer plenty of questions. Norway, meanwhile, can take plenty of positives into their qualifier against Italy in Oslo on Tuesday. For now, though, I've been Tom Maston, and thanks for joining me.
