Álvaro Negredo has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by J. Milner.
Bayern have won 1-0, so City will qualify with a win here...
HAT-TRICK FOR NEGREDO!!! Aguero almost gets his third but Akinfeev again saves well, but CSKA only clear as far as Milner - the midfielder shows great feet down the left and pitches up a superb cross for the Spaniard, who nods back across the keeper for the match-ball - City's fifth.
90' +1
Good effort from Kolarov as he's set away down the left, and he blasts an effort at goal from 20 yards which Akinfeev does well to beat away.
90'
Two added minutes, and City are moments away from the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
89'
Kolaror shows his attacking nous now, nutmegging a CSKA defender before winning a corner. He again turns a visiting defender from the set-piece - he's enjoying himself out there.
88'
City captain Toure has again been immense tonight - he's covered 10km and has a passing accuracy of 90 per cent from 70 passes. It's a cliche, but he really is the complete midfielder.
86'
Elm cracks a shot at goal now but it hits a team-mate and goes out for a goal kick. That sums up CSKA's night - they've shot themselves in the foot - or feet, as it were.
85'
The CSKA striker is still trying to make things happen and shows lightning reactions on the turn now - it wouldn't be a surprise to see Premier League clubs go in for him next summer.
84'
Doumbia is offside and frustrated with the linesman here - he must be disappointed with his team-mates after putting in a fine shift up front.
82'
City are comfortable on the ball at the moment with CSKA doing little pressing up the pitch. By contrast, Negredo is fighting for every ball, and wins a corner after showing good strength in the area.
80'
Ten minutes to go now and three players are on a hat-trick - a third for Doumbia would make for a pulsating end to the game.
Minute
Description
79'
Vitinho enters the game and replaces K. Honda.
78'
So close to a fifth for City! It's almost a catastrophe for CSKA as they block Kolarov's cross from the left only to see it rebound for a shot for Aguero. His effort trickles across goal, and a defender clears for a corner.
76'
Jesús Navas enters the game and replaces S. Nasri.
Nasri is the latest City attacker to receive a standing ovation as he is replaced by Jesus Navas. A top performance from the Frenchman, who has been in inspired form.
74'
Negredo almost scores a certain goal of the season as he flicks the ball up and over two CSKA defenders before crashing a 20-yard volley two yards over Akinfeev's bar. A stunning effort, and that would have been some way to score a hat-trick.
73'
Pellegrini is animated on the touchline, and won't be happy at shipping another soft goal. They may be winning 4-2, but moments like that will cost City in the latter stages.
71'
Penalty goal scored by S. Doumbia for CSKA Moscow!
A DOUBLE FOR DOUMBIA!!! Pantilimon is sent the wrong way as the striker wraps his effort into the bottom right-hand corner, and the visitors have 20 minutes for an unlikely comeback.
70'
Penalty to CSKA! It's another blunder at the back from City as Clichy drags down Doumbia after the forward wriggled free on the right of the box. Absolutely needless from the left-back...
69'
Bayern Munich are beating Viktoria Plzen at the moment - that means City will qualify for the next round if things stay the same.
67'
Zuber fires in a curling effort from 25 yards, but the high effort is right down Pantilimon's throat, and he holds it comfortably.
66'
A. Kolarov enters the game and replaces David Silva.
Silva departs to a thunderous reception, and is replaced by Kolarov - he's been brilliant tonight.
65'
Pantilimon gathers the low free kick from Elm - nothing out of the ordinary, but every shot he holds adds a little more stock to his current role as No. 1.
63'
Worryingly for City, Silva looks in some discomfort and will most probably come off. Tosic meanwhile drives at City's goal and wins a free kick after being bodychecked by Demichelis. Free kick to CSKA...
62'
It looks as though a flare went up among the CSKA fans, but it looks to have gone out again - all disciplinary eyes will be on these fans tonight, so anything out of the ordinary probably isn't wise.
60'
The pace has slowed a tad, and CSKA look like they know the game is up. Let's hope they show a little fight in the latter stages.
57'
Y. Touré gets yellow.
Nasri does more good work - this time down the left - as he harries his opponent into giving away a throw-in. The Frenchman looks a player reborn under Pellegrini.
55'
Slutski will be so angry with his side - they gave themselves a chance with that late goal in the first half, but have thrown it away within five minutes of the restart with yet more poor defending.
53'
Nasri is in fine form tonight as he gets away down the right and plays a chipped ball into the area. Milner doesn't know where Aguero is though, and flicks a back-header away from his team-mate.
51'
Álvaro Negredo has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by S. Nasri.
NEGREDO MAKES ITS FOUR!!! That should be the game as Toure plays a lovely lofted ball over the top to Nasri, who plays a first-time volleyed pass with the outside of his boot across goal for the Spaniard to tap in his second open goal of the night. Top quality from City.
47'
James Milner has been brought on for Fernandinho, presumably to play a more disciplined role in the centre. That doesn't say too much about the Brazilian's performance if it's a tactical change - he is a defensive midfielder after all.
46'
J. Milner enters the game and replaces Fernandinho.
R. Elm enters the game and replaces G. Milanov.
45' +1
S. Doumbia has scored a goal for CSKA Moscow! Assist by P. Wernbloom.
DOUMBIA NETS FOR CSKA!!! A lifeline perhaps for the visitors as the striker breaks the offside trap, rounds Pantilimon and taps in from two yards out to give Slutski's sides the merest glimmer of a hope.
45'
S. Zuber enters the game and replaces A. Musa.
We're underway for the second half now - can City make this one safe?
44'
How have City not scored a fourth?! Zabaleta is all alone on the box on the right and slides it across goal, but Negredo is inches away from tapping it in. Aguero somehow rescues the ball and pulls it back across goal, and Silva makes a mess of a simple tap-in from six yards.
42'
Musa is looking in some pain and will have to be replaced here - yet more woe for CSKA. But pity the poor player who has to join his team-mates for this drubbing.
39'
The first mistake from Aguero tonight - although to be fair to him, it's an attempted bicycle kick from a Zabaleta cross that he just can't quite adjust himself for. If that had gone in, the sides may as well have shaken hands and called it a night.
37'
Aguero is putting in a top shift tonight, and he's just nutmegged a CSKA player with an impudent toe-poke. Two goals, and assist, and then that - he's worth the entrance fee alone.
36'
Silva wins another corner with more fancy footwork on the left - the City forwards have been fantastic so far, and CSKA simply have no way of dealing with them.
34'
Nastasic makes an excellent tackle on Musa in the area to deny the forward a shot, but the CSKA player looks in pain - there's a brief stoppage in play to get him off the pitch.
33'
Almost a fourth for City as Silva twists into space in the area and pulls the ball back, but a desperate CSKA defender manages to punt it for a corner before a Negredo can tap in.
32'
CSKA may wonder what's going on - they've looked threatening on the ball, but they're absolutely hopeless without it. Their defence is a shambles, and Aguero has been on fire.
30'
Álvaro Negredo has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by S. Agüero.
NEGREDO ADDS A THIRD!!! Aguero is the architect, winning the ball on the wing to set off a counter-attack. Negredo lays it off to the Argentine on the wing and Aguero plays a gorgeous pass to the back-post, where the Spaniard is on hand to tap in. Superb link-up play between the two.
29'
Yaya Toure collects the ball with his back to goal, turns with strength, and bends an effort a yard with of Akinfeev's left-hand post with the keeper sprawling. He's not been on target yet, but he's in the mood.
28'
Pantilimon is enjoying his rare time on the pitch here, running out and turning on the ball on the wing before laying off a simple pass before he's closed down.
27'
It's open on the fans here as Negredo hits an effort high into the stands, and then moments later CSKA go forward and Honda smashes an effort into the supporters.
25'
Honda lines up a set-piece now and hits a strong, low effort that bounces off the turf, but Pantilimon does better this time and holds onto the ball. The City crowd nervously applaud.
23'
Almost a disaster for Pantilimon here as Tosic's free kick loops up off the wall, but the keeper comes and fails to either catch the ball or punch it. It's comical, but he gets away with it. A penny for Joe Hart's thoughts...
22'
Doumbia wins a free kick on the edge of the area for CSKA - time for Tosic to make amends?
21'
S. Agüero has scored a goal for Manchester City! Assist by S. Nasri.
AGUERO MAKES IT TWO!!! What a goal this is from the superb striker, who turns beautifully on a Nasri pass from the centre - the spin takes his marker out of the game, and he screws an effort into the bottom left-hand corner of Akinfeev's net from 20 yards. That really was a special goal.
18'
Samir Nasri has got firecrackers in his boots as he dances round and round CSKA challenges in the area before setting up Silva, who can only find the side-netting with a near-post shot from eight yards. Terrific skill from the Frenchman though, who appears to be enjoying his football again.
16'
Pellegrini's men have taken a breath and are settling a little now - they've looked anything but comfortable since they opened the scoring.
14'
City are getting sloppy in possession and Matija Nastasic has to be alert with a great sliding tackle in the box. The hosts lose the ball again though, and only a timely block prevents Honda from creating a chance in the area.
13'
It's poor by the magnificent midfielder's standards from a set-piece, as he curls an effort well over the bar.
12'
Z. Tošić gets yellow.
It's not going well for Tosic - he cost his side the opener, and now he's been booked for a foul. Toure to step up from 30 yards...
11'
Chance for CSKA! The Russian side's passing is slick, and Doumbia manages to harry the ball off of Clichy in the box - he sets himself but snaps his shot over from 10 yards. A waste, but the visitors are right back in this one.
10'
The wall defelcts the free kick wide, and City clear the resulting corner. You can hear Costel Pantilimon clapping his huge gloves in appreciation - it's another huge night for him.
9'
CSKA are settling well now, with Doumbia threatening Zabaleta with his pace down the left flank twice now. Toure gives away a free kick in the centre from 35 yards a little harshly...
7'
That's six in seven UCL games for Aguero - a terrific record, and he's looking sharp. He may well get more tonight at this rate.
5'
Saying that, CSKA threaten here as Honda gets away inside the City box on the right, but dallies and sees his pass/shot blocked before City see the danger out. An open game already!
4'
I may be wrong, but I doubt CSKA got a touch on the ball before City scored - and the ball was in play for a good 90 seconds before the spot kick. City are dominating already.
3'
Penalty goal scored by S. Agüero for Manchester City!
AUGERO SCORES!!! A perfect start for the hosts as the Argentine striker saunters up to the ball and calmly strokes it over Akinfeev to his left from 12 yards. A lovely spot kick, and City lead 1-0.
2'
Penalty to City! David Silva is brought down by a poor sliding challenge from Tosic and it's a clear foul...
1'
We're underway at the Etihad! Pellegrini will be hoping Sergio Aguero continues his fine form tonight - he's got five goals in his last six Champions League games.
Good evening and welcome to the LIVE Text Commentary of Manchester City v CSKA Moscow at the Etihad Stadium. I'm Tom J Doyle and I'll be guiding you through this Champions League clash on Guy Fawkes Night - and if the last match is anything to go by, there'll be fireworks on the pitch as well as off it.
The Premier League side won 2-1 in Russia on October 23rd, though the match was overshadowed by racist abuse of Yaya Toure from the home supporters - CSKA denied the allegations, yet UEFA have ordered the partial closure of Arena Khimki for their next home game against Bayern Munich.
Tensions are bound to be running high with so much at stake in Group D as well. City will secure their place in the last 16 for the first time if they beat CSKA and Viktoria Plzeň fail to beat Bayern Munich tonight.
So it's an unchanged line-up for the hosts - though Pellegrini would be hard-pushed to drop anyone from a side that won 7-0 to be fair.
The dangerman for CSKA will undoubtedly by Zoran Tosic - the former Manchester United winger has scored five goals in CSKA's last three games, and seven in eight outings for club and country.
Leonid Slutski's CSKA could climb above City if they win in Manchester - though they have never won in England before, and City thumped Norwich 7-0 in Saturday - so expect goals.
We're 10 minutes away from kick-off and the home crowd will be expecting a win tonight - they've sturggled in Europe for the last two years, but are beginning to look comfortable playing big occasions like these.
The sides are led out by referee Carlos Velasco Carballo, and we're moments away from the start now...
That's the interval, and it's been a breathless 45 minutes of action at the Etihad. City have been inspired by a sensational Sergio Aguero, though that late Doumbia effort could make things interesting if CSKA remember how to defend, and continue to counter with slick passing.
It's been a curious game for Manuel Pellegrini - his attackers have been superb, and Matija Nastasic has put in some great challenges, but they look very soft defensively. It's a recurring theme this season, and they'll have to tighten up to have any chance of winning this competition.
Wernbloom made the goal for Doumbia with a great pass, and City's midfielders would do well to close him down to prevent him doing the same in the second 45 minutes.
That's it! Manchester City qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League with a 5-2 win over CSKA Moscow. Manuel Pellegrini's men were in stunning form in front of goal, though defensive concerns still dog his side - those mistakes will need to be ironed out in the coming weeks and months.
Negredo got three, though Aguero was undoubtedly the man of the match with an inspired display. Nasri and Silva were also in fine form, and as long as their forward line carries on like that, City will be confident against anybody.
The City fans among you can celebrate with a few fireworks as dreams of European glory edge that little bit closer. I've been Tom J Doyle, and thanks for joining us tonight. Bye for now.
