Newcastle are defending deeper and deeper as Cardiff pile forward. A foul on Hatem Ben Arfa on the halfway line relieves the pressure. And breathe!
87'
Time is ticking away here and Cardiff have to act soon if they are to rescue a point! They are putting Newcastle on the back foot and nerves are jangling in the Cardiff City Stadium.
86'
H. Ben Arfa enters the game and replaces Y. Cabaye.
85'
PENALTY SHOUT! Alan Pardew, the Newcastle players and the travelling fans are incensed as a penalty shout is turned down. Gutierrez plays the ball ino the box and BLuebirds defender Andrew Taylor appears to have handles the ball in the area! Pardew races after the fourth official but nothing is given, and I think the referee has got that right. Taylor saw the ball late and could not have got his arm out of the way in time.
84'
CHANCE! Mutch is played onside and a fantastic first touch puts him through on goal, but Krul smothers the danger. Was that Cardiff's chance?
82'
STAT ATTACK: Newcastle have won their last six meetings with Cardiff in all competitions, most recently a 5-1 home victory in the Championship in February 2010.
81'
N. Maynard enters the game and replaces P. Odemwingie.
80'
CHANCE! With ten minutes to go, Cisse is denied from close range after latching onto a mess-up in the Cardiff defence but once again Marshall thwarts him.
78'
CHANCE! Jordan Mutch really has transformed his side's chances this half. He picks out Craig Bellmay, whose effort is blocked by the on-rushing Tim Krul. The Dutch keeper was quick to come off this line there but the Bluebirds refuse to relent their push for a leveller!
Minute
Description
77'
The sting has gone out of Cardiff's play but they are still doing their best to find an equaliser, but Newcastle are retaining their shape at the back and making it very hard for the Bluebirds to break through.
75'
STAT ATTACK: The Geordies have won just three of their last 23 Premier League away games, losing 13 of these matches.
73'
CHANCE! Corner to Newcastle and Debuchy manages to get his head to the ball and steer it towards goal, where substitute Jonas Gutierrez rise with his first touch of the ball to header over from five yards.
71'
J. Gutiérrez enters the game and replaces L. Rémy.
70'
With twenty minutes to go, Alan Pardew makes a change and it's...REMY COMING OFF!? Surely the Frenchman must have a slight injury? Otherwise I can't think why he would take his starman off the field of play, especially when he is on a hat-trick!
68'
Campbell looked none-too-happy ti be taken off as he went straight down the tunnel. On the pitch, his team continue to probe away and substitute Mutch continues to be the catalyst of all that is good with Cardiff's play.
66'
C. Bellamy enters the game and replaces F. Campbell.
65'
The atmosphere and mood within the stadium has turned from abject misery to overwhelming optimism. Bellmay is stripped and ready to enter the fold as Cardiff can smell an equaliser. He comes on for Campbell and will want to sink his former club.
63'
CHANCE! It's squeaky bum time for Newcastle and Cardiff win a corner, which is cleared and all of a sudden it is four on two! Remy lays off Cisse, who can only find the legs of the on-rushing Marshall. And we can breath again in this pulsating match!
60'
CHANCE! Oh so close for Cardiff! Campbell's shot/cross falls to the feet of Gunnarsson who is unmarked and all alone in the six-yard box, but he misses the ball as he slides in. The Bluebirds are a team reinvigorated and both they and their fans are up for this. We have half an hour to go and what a match we have on now!
58'
P. Odemwingie has scored a goal for Cardiff City! Assist by J. Mutch.
GOAL! Cardiff are back in it and it is Peter Odemwingie's first goal at home for Cardiff. Gunnarsson brings the ball down the left wing and finds Mutch on the edge of the box, who plays a wonderful first time ball to the waiting Odemwingie who slots it past Krul. Is that the kiss of life for the Bluebirds? You bet!
57'
I bet Papiss Cisse wishes he could borrow some of Remy's form. The stiker is frustrated again as a cross from Gouffran fails to meet him and sails out for a throw. Meanwhile, Craig Bellamy is warming up on the sidelines...
55'
CHANCE! Good comnibation play from Peter Odemwingie and Mutch on the right sees a ball from the substitute sent in to Wittingham, who falls on the ball and sees it go out of play for a goal kick. That's more like it from Cardiff.
52'
CHANCE!...and supersub Jordan Mutch loses his marker but headers over from the corner. More urgency is needed from Cardiff.
51'
The Bluebird fans roar their team on as Wittingham wins a corner on the left...
49'
That was a good clean strike from Cabaye, who has been the orchestrator of destruction from midfield so far this afternoon. Brilliant stuff.
47'
CHANCE! Cabaye goes long again after his setting his sights on goal but Marshall is on hand to palm his 25-yard strike away from danger. Newcastle pick up where they finished off in the second half and they are still flying!
46'
J. Mutch enters the game and replaces Kim Bo-Kyung.
Cardiff get us back underway as last week's Bluebirds hero, Mutch, makes his bow. Will he be the hero again this week?
45' +2
CHANCE! If only Fraizer Campbell was a few inches taller. The striker rises high to a Wittingham cross but is unable to steer his effort towards goal.
45'
There are TWO minutes of added on time.
43'
OFF THE POST! That was audatious from Cabaye. The playmaker surprises everyone inside the Cardiff City Stadium by hitting a free-kick on the right flank straight against the post with Marshall in trouble off his line. Caulker gets the ball clear but that would have rounded this half off a treat, what a shot!
42'
...but Turner can't guide the ball towards goal and it's a goal kick to Newcastle.
41'
Gouffran fouls Wittingham and it is a great chance for the former Villa man to float a free-kick into the box. He steps up...
38'
L. Rémy has scored a goal for Newcastle United!
GOAL! It's that man again. Loic Remy extend Newcastle's lead and his own fantastic scoring run. Once again it was Cabaye who started the ball rolling, playing the ball into Cisse, whose first time shot was parried by Marshall but the rebound falls to Remy who punts the ball into the left hand bottom corner of the net. 2-0 Newcastle!
37'
Althuogh the work rate is there from Cardiff, they really have been second best to an impressive Newcastle side...
35'
Kim is having no joy up against Tiote today as he fails to make a killer pass to the Cardiff frontmen with the Senegalese midfielder breathing down his neck. Cardiff are being swamped so far today.
32'
CHANCE! Cabaye has a go from long range but Marshall is right behind the Frenchman's effort. The Magpies are well on top, here and deserve their lead.
30'
L. Rémy has scored a goal for Newcastle United!
GOAL! You just can't stop Loic Remy from scoring at the moment! The French International picks the ball up on the left flank around the halfway line and runs towards goal, he cuts inside on the edge of the 'd' and blasts the ball low to Marshall's right. The keeper got a hand to it but he can't stop Remy getting his fourth goal in three games. First blood, Newcastle!
29'
PENALTY SHOUT! Campbell latches onto the ball just inside the Newcastle box and the Argentine Collocini slides in on the striker and looks to have taken the ball. The home fans cry foul but the Bluebirds play on...
27'
CHANCE! And it's the visitors coming forward again who threaten to open the scoring first. Cabaye plays a delightful ball into the box and Gouffran cuts the ball back for Remy, whose shot is tame and straight at Marshall. He should have done much, much better there and although the ball looks like it came off Gouffran's hand in the build-up, you need to play to the whistle, son!
25'
Cardiff win their first corner of the game. Wittingham drifts the ball in from the right but Krul collects comfortably.
22'
I've just glanced at the replays and they confirm that Tiote's eyes were on the ball. Cardiff are not struggling as such but they do not have a foothold in this game so far - nor have they had a chance since Campbell's one-on-one with the Dutchman Tim Krul.
20'
OUCH! Tiote goes through the ball and whacks Kim high on the shin. The ball is put out of play so that he can get treatment. The Magpies midfielder has had problems with his discipline in the past but I don't think there was anything untowards in that. Kim is back up and ready to play on.
18'
CHANCE! What a save from Marshall! The ball bounces around in the Cardiff box after a good delivery in from a free-kick from Cabaye and Remy draws a smart save from the keeper and moments later Sissoko shoots from 20-25-yards out and pulls another excellent save from the Bluebirds number one, who flies high to claw the ball away from goal. The resulting corner leads to nothing and Cardiff clear the danger.
16'
Referee Kevin Friend stops play to allow Cardiff midfielder Gunnarsson to receive some treatment on his back after a collision in the Newcastle area. The Bluebirds are looking for some consistency in their play but are struggling to find it.
14'
It is all Newcastle in the opening exchanges but Cardiff are keeping them at bay - allowing them to play pretty passes in midfield but shutting the door shut as they advance towards the box.
12'
CHANCE! An ambitious volley from Gouffran from distance sails high over Marshall's goal. Alan Pardew will be happy with his side's start but still no goals, here.
10'
CHANCE! For all of their possession of the ball, Newcastle just can't pick the lock at the moment. A half-chance for the much maligned Cisse went begging when he failed to control a cross-field ball and moments later he cuts inside on the right and curls his shot from 20-yards over the bar.
7'
STAT ATTACK: Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse has now gone 12 league games without a goal.
4'
CHANCE! Peter Wittingham plays a delicate ball over the top of the Magpies defence to find Campbell, who goes around Tim Krul but then loses his footing as the ball goes out of play. The Newcastle defence needed to wake up there...
3'
A half-chance falls to Loic Remy who turns on the edge of the box following good work on the left flank by Sissoko, but his effort is blocked and cleared.
1'
And we're off! Newcastle get us underway in their changed strip, kicking from right to left.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live text commentary of Cardiff versus Newcastle. My name is Hayden Gribble and I will be guiding you through all the action of this intriguing Premier League encounter. But first things first, let's get the team news...
And now the visitors to the Cardiff City Stadium: Newcastle: Krul, Santon, Williamson, Debuchy, Coloccini, Sissoko, Tiote, Cabaye, Remy, Cisse, Gouffran.Subs: Yanga-Mbiwa, Ben Arfa, Dummett, Sa Ameobi, Gutiterrez, Anita, Elliot.
How desperate must Alan Pardew be today to send his team back to Tyneside with all three points? Their first half display last time out against Everton was nothing short of shambolic and an improvement in performances will eventually lead to the points that the Magpies need to fly up the table.
For Malky Mackay, though, how happy must he be to see his side a point above Man Utd just six games in? The Bluebirds faithful must be pinching themselves after a strong start. However, Cardiff will want to add Newcastle's scalp to an already impressive home record and solid start to the season. Just under ten minutes to go...
STAT ATTACK: Cardiff have lost just three of their 26 home games in the league since the start of the 2012-13 season (W16, D7). (BBCSport)
The players are out and we are moments away from kick-off!
No one is leaving this one early! There have been no clear cut late chances from either sides. Newcastle are nearly there!
HALFTIME: Cardiff 0-2 Newcastle. What a difference five days make? On Monday, Alan Pardew was left seething at his side's first half display but this time he must he brimming with pride. Newcastle have been fantastic to watch in this opening half and the game could already be wrapped up if were not for the Cardiff keeper who produced two wonder saves early on in the half before Loic Remy's two clever finishes. More after the break, please lads!
If I were Malky Mackay, I'd be tearing my players a new one, except the goalie, of course. Marshall performed heroics last tiem at the Cardiff City Stadium against Spurs and he is doing it again today. But it's up to his teammates to get the Bluebirds back in this.
STAT ATTACK: Remy brace means Newcastle’s last 11 PL goals scored by Frenchmen. Foreign goal streak record is 12 by Arsenal's French force in 2004. (Opta)
The players are arriving back on the pitch. Will Cardiff strike early? Or will Newcastle continue their dominance?
CHANCE! Theophile-Catherine fires over and the referee blows his whistle...
FULL TIME: CARDIFF 1-2 NEWCASTLE
Phew! What a game that was! Newcastle were outstanding in the first hour of the game and played their best football of the season so far. Yohan Cabaye and Loic Remy were running rings around the Bluebirds and the Magpies should have gone in at halftime with more than just two goals...
...However, the introduction of Jordan Mutch reformed Cardiff and their chances and he was heavily involed in every attack they threw at the visitors - especially in the build-up to Peter Odemwingie's consulation goal. In the end, they had left themselves too much to do but both managers will take positives, especially Alan Pardew, who will feel the pressure lift off him after a well deserved three points.
I'm pleased I drew that game today to report on! What a match. I have been Hayden Gribble and to all of you out there, stay classy.
