MLS Wrap: Keane on song for Galaxy
Robbie Keane scored a first-half hat-trick as Los Angeles Galaxy smashed Seattle Sounders 4-0 in MLS, while Montreal also notched a win.
The Galaxy rose to fourth in the Western Conference with their impressive demolition of Seattle as Keane played a role in all four of LA's goals, ending the Sounders' unbeaten run at seven matches.
The 32-year-old Irish striker set up Sean Franklin for LA's opening goal in the 12th minute, getting on the end of Marcelo Sarvas' pass before cutting the ball back to Franklin, who tapped in from close range.
Keane made it 2-0 in the 24th minute when he slotted the ball home after Seattle failed to clear Landon Donovan's cross.
The local fans at LA's Home Depot Center were cheering again 10 minutes later when Keane scored from the penalty spot after Djimi Traore fouled Gyasi Zardes in the box.
Keane completed his hat-trick in the second-last minute of the first half as Brad Evans slid into the back of Juninho and the veteran striker again beat Seattle goalkeeper Michael Gspurning from 11 metres.
In the second half, Robbie Rogers made his return to professional football, coming off the bench for the Galaxy in his first appearance since announcing he was gay in February, while the Sounders were reduced to 10 players in the 87th minute as Shalrie Joseph was shown a red card.
In Montreal, Marco Di Vaio scored in the second, 28th and 32nd minutes as the Impact overcame Philadelphia 5-3 to move into second in the Eastern Conference.
