AFC Champions League wrap: Sanfrecce hold Bunyodkor, Beijing Guoan overcome Pohang Steelers
Bunyodkor Tashkent dropped points at the top of the AFC Champions League group G after a 0-0 draw with Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
This allowed Beijing Guoan to not only close the gap at the top of the group but also put some distance between themselves and the Pohang Steelers, which they did by beating the Korean side 2-0 thanks to goals from Shao Jiayi and Joffre Mendez.
In group C, Al Ahli remain top of the pile, after drawing 2-2 with second-placed Al Gharafa.
Alex had given Al Gharafa the lead, only for Amad Al Hosni to equalise before Djibril Cisse put the Qatari side ahead again from the spot. Jairo Palamino then grabbed the leveller on 69 minutes.
Iranian side Sepahan put further distance between themselves and Al Nasr at the bottom of the group with a 2-1 win.
Top beat bottom in group D as Esteghlal edged out Al Rayyan 2-0, while in the other group D game, Al Hilal beat Al Ain thanks to goals from Abdullah Al-Dawsari and Wesley Lopes De Silva.
Kashiwa Reysol remain top of group H after they drew 1-1 with Guizhou Renhe, Tatsuya Matsushima scoring for Reysol and Li notching for Renhe.
The Central Coast Mariners now lie in second place after a Michael McGlinchey goal gave them all three points against the Suwon Bluewings, who remain bottom without a win so far this campaign.
