MLS wrap: Dynamo near East lead

15 April 2013 08:08

Houston Dynamo moved within one point of the Eastern Conference lead after a 2-1 win over the Chicago Fire on Sunday.

In an entertaining contest at the BBVA Compass Stadium, Will Bruin put the Dynamo ahead with a well-placed header after 26 minutes before Chris Rolfe restored parity moments later with a thunderous volley from inside the box.

Brad Davis then popped up in the 81st minute to score the winner for Houston with the result leaving them right behind Eastern Conference leaders the Montreal Impact, who earlier in the day were held to a 1-1 draw by the Columbus Crew.

Former Italy international Marco Di Vaio put the hosts ahead after 68 minutes at Saputo Stadium but Crew attacker Dominic Oduro ensured a share of the spoils with a 72nd-minute equaliser.

In the day's other match, the Portland Timbers moved into third place in the Western Conference thanks to a 1-0 victory against the San Jose Earthquakes.

After a scoreless first half the match tipped in Portland's favour in the 69th minute when the Earthquakes' Alan Gordon received his second yellow card of the match.

The Timbers took full advantage of their numerical advantage less than 10 minutes later, scoring the only goal of the game through a free-kick from captain Will Johnson.
