Good afternoon and welcome to Goal.com's play -by-play commentary of the Premier League match between Reading and Liverpool. My name is Dale Jones and I'll be taking you through today's game.
Lets begin with the two teams, Reading line up as: McCarthy; Gunter, Morrison, Mariappa, Kelly; Karacan, Guthrie; McAnuff, Hunt, McCleary; Pogrebnyak. Subs: Taylor, Harte, Pearce, Carrico, Le Fondre, Blackman.
Nigel Adkins is still searching for his first point as Reading manager and will find it hard to come by against a Liverpool side hoping to leapfrog neighbours Everton in sixth place.
There has never been a goalless draw between today's two sides in nine meetings, so expect goals at the Madejski this afternoon! Kick-off is less than 15 minutes away.
Tributes followed by a minute's silence to be held at the Madejski in memory of the 96 Liverpool fans who tragically lost their lives at Hillsborough 24 years ago.
Somehow this game enters half-time with the score goalless. Liverpool have squandered many chances so far today and Brendan Rodgers will be disappointed that his team aren't ahead. Nigel Adkins on the other hand will want his players to cut out careless mistakes which fortunately haven't proved costly so far.
Goal.com's man at the Madejski Stadium Tom McKeown gives his take on the first half: "They go into the break goalless at the Majeski Stadium, but Reading have so often nearly been the architects of their own downfall, giving the ball away numerous times. Liverpool though, thanks to some last-ditch blocks and good saves by Alex McCarthy, have been unable to convert their dominance into a half-time lead."
Liverpool couldn't find a way past the excellent Alex McCarthy today, the young keeper pulled off save after save, his best diving to his left to deny a fierce strike from Steven Gerrard. The home side pick up a point but lacked any real threat up top and look to be relegation certainties. Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool will look at the game as two points dropped and slip further behind Everton for the race for sixth place.
