Liga MX wrap: Tigres back on top

1 April 2013 06:33

Tigres have regained top spot in the Liga MX after a late goal gave them a tough 2-1 away win against Puebla on Sunday.

Substitute Alan Pulido scored the winner in the triumph after a mistake from Puebla goalkeeper Victor Hernandez.

It took until the 32nd minute for Tigres to take the lead as Juninho's volleyed cross was converted by Spaniard Luis Garcia.

Former United States international DaMarcus Beasley equalised for Puebla after 58 minutes when he rose highest to head home William Paredes' cross.

Despite squandering a few chances, including Garcia's effort into the woodwork in the 61st minute, Tigres secured the three points as Hernandez failed to hold substitute Elias Hernandez's powerful drive and Pulido was on the spot to tap home.

Tigres have a two-point gap over second-placed Atlas after 12 games.

In Sunday's other game, two second-half goals helped America clinch a 2-0 away win against Guadalajara.

Striker Raul Jimenez struck a brace with goals in the 52nd and 75th minutes to lift America into third spot, two points ahead of fourth-placed Santos Laguna.

Guadalajara remain in 11th position – missing a chance to move to sixth with a victory.
