Liga MX wrap: Atlas regain peak
League leaders Atlas went back on top of the Liga MX table with a 2-1 win at Cruz Azul on Saturday.
Luis Ramos scored his first goal of the season to put Atlas ahead after 39 minutes but Cruz midfielder Israel Castro equalised six minutes after half-time.
Veteran Argentine striker Vicente Vuoso ensured Atlas went home with all three points with what proved to be the 54th-minute winner.
Santos Laguna lost ground on Atlas and second-placed Tigres UANL, who play on Sunday, drawing 1-1 at home to sixth-placed Queretaro.
Oribe Peralta put the home side ahead in the 38th minute but Queretaro battled hard after midfielder Mario Osuna was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 73rd minute.
They got their reward when Santos defender Felipe Baloy put through his own net in stoppage time.
Pachuca also lost touch with the leaders, dropping six points behind Atlas, after drawing 0-0 at Leon but Monterrey moved into seventh place on 17 points with a 3-0 home win over Pumas with all the goals coming in the final 10 minutes.
Eighth-placed Morelia also boosted their league position with a 4-0 home win over struggling Atlante with Carlos Ochoa scoring a late brace.
In other matches, Toluca won for the fourth time this season, defeating Tijuana 1-0 with Wilson Mathias scoring the only goal after just seven minutes.
Tijuana played 80 minutes with 10 men after midfielder Fidel Martinez was shown the red card for the second time this season.
Cellar dweller San Luis collected their first win of the campaign, 3-0 at home over Jaguares.
Juan Cuevas opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 23 minutes with Javier Munoz and Marco Perez also finding the net.
