Patience is a virtue, says Klopp

26 January 2013 12:41

Juergen Klopp feels that Borussia Dortmund fully deserved their 3-0 Bundesliga win over Nurnberg on Friday.

But Klopp admitted that the reigning German champions were by no means flawless.

Two goals from Jakub Blaszczykowski in the opening 45 minutes and a late Robert Lewandowski strike helped BVB to a convincing win, but the former Mainz boss conceded that things could have gone differently had Nurnberg had a bit more luck.

"Even though we had much more possession, things did not go easy for us. Nurnberg could easily have gone up early on if it wasn't for Roman Weidenfeller," Klopp said.

"We do not have the feeling that we put in a perfect performance. We do feel that we fully deserved our win, though.

"We could have caused them more problems on a few occasions. The challenge is to remain patient."

Dortmund climbed to second place in the table following Friday's win.

Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund 3 Nuremberg 0

26 January 2013 01:04

Borussia Dortmund have coasted to a 3-0 victory over Nuremberg at the Signal Iduna Park, moving into second place provisionally in the Bundesliga.

The reigning German champions secured all three points with a competent display that was decided by a first-half double from Jakub Blaszczykowski, with Robert Lewandowski adding a third in the 88th minute.

Dortmund were awarded a rather soft penalty in the 18th minute as Timo Gebhart felled Lukasz Piszczek in the area. Blaszczykowski was handed the responsibility and he buried the spot-kick to the 'keeper's right in cool fashion.

Nuremberg have not won a game after going behind since March 2011 and any hopes of bucking that trend were gone when Blaszczykowski swept home from a low Mario Goetze cross, doubling his side's advantage in the 21st minute.

Although they remained in control in the second half, it was not until the 60th minute that Dortmund truly threatened again.

Lewandowski spearheaded the attack but instead off finishing from the Pole's pass, Goetze hit the ball back to his team-mate who was unable to beat Raphael Schaefer.

Lewandowski's persistence finally paid off in the 88th minute as a long ball from the back was cushioned into his path by Marco Reus and the striker rifled an emphatic volley into the roof of the net.

Victory sends Dortmund temporarily into second position on goal difference, nine points behind Bayern Munich who face Stuttgart on Sunday.
