Copa Libertadores wrap: Sao Paulo thrash Bolivar

24 January 2013 04:13

Sao Paulo are in control of their two-leg Copa Libertadores tie with Bolivar after winning 5-0 at the Estadio Cicero on Wednesday.

The Brazilians sent their home fans into raptures after only eight minutes when Osvaldo's stunning strike from outside the box left Bolivar keeper Marcos Arguello with no chance.

A Luis Fabiano brace, in the 21st and 46th minutes, gave Sao Paulo a commanding 3-0 lead at half time with the Bolivian club having no answers to the dominance.

It was four on 60 minutes when Osvaldo's low cross was finished by Jadson, before the provider then won a penalty in the 63rd minute, which was converted clinically by goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni.

The result means that Sao Paulo should have a comfortable trip to Le Paz for the second leg next week.

In other Libertadores action, Ecuador's LDU Quito won 1-0 at home against Brazil's Gremio in the first leg of their tie.

Midfielder Carlos Feraud scored the only goal of the game in the 76th minute.

The second leg will be hosted in Porto Alegre next week with the Brazilians looking to get themselves back into the tie.
