Copa del Rey wrap: Malaga, Valencia into last eight

9 January 2013 02:35

Malaga have blitzed Eibar in the second half to win 4-1 and move into the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey 5-2 on aggregate.

An 11th-minute goal from Ruben Arroyo had put Eibar 2-1 ahead on aggregate and the third tier club looked on track for a massive upset until late in the second half.

Argentine midfielder Diego Buonanotte began Malaga's comeback in the 74th minute when he played a neat one-two with Javier Saviola before slotting the ball home.

Just three minutes later and the home side were in front when Sebastian Fernandez tapped in Buonanotte's cross and in the 81st minute it was 4-2 on aggregate after a close-range header from Francisco Portillo.

Buonanotte wrapped up Malaga's win in the 91st minute with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Malaga were joined in the last eight by Valencia, who defeated Osasuna 2-1 on Tuesday for a 4-1 aggregate triumph.

Having won 2-0 in Osasuna, Valencia increased their aggregate lead to 3-0 thanks to Alberto Costa's rasping free-kick in the 34th minute.

But the visitors gave themselves some hope just two minutes later when Joseba Llorente collected a long pass and finished from the edge of the area.

Valencia ended any chance of a comeback in second-half injury time thanks to a goal from Roberto Soldado.
