Floccari happy to contribute for Lazio

Lazio reserve forward Sergio Floccari was pleased with his contribution as the Serie A giants beat Catania 3-0 in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday.

Floccari, who has not started a league match for Lazio this season, was impressive in the quarter-final win, setting up two goals for Brazilian midfielder Hernanes.

The victory booked Lazio's spot in the semi-finals of the cup competition, where they will meet Juventus or AC Milan over two legs.

"We're all very happy," Floccari said after the victory.

"I'm personally very happy because when the coach gives me the chance to play I always have to try and help the team and be important.

"I didn't manage to score tonight, but I managed to pass to Hernanes twice and create a good chance to score, we inverted our roles. That's great.

"I still have to improve and be more decisive near the goal, but these are my characteristics, I want to give my hand and contribution to the team."

Floccari was pleased with his side's approach in the match and says his side will go all-out to win the Coppa Italia for the first time since 2009.

"Tonight we faced Catania with the right attitude, without conceding too much space to them, because they have great qualities in attack. We need to continue like this," he said.

"Obviously the Coppa Italia is an important competition for us, we want to reach the final and we proved that tonight. The important thing now is to keep facing any match we play with this same kind of attitude, we cannot change (our) approach."

Lazio sit second in the Serie A, five points behind table-toppers Juventus.

Coppa Italia: Lazio 3 Catania 0

9 January 2013 02:16

Lazio have qualified for the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia, with a second-half double from midfielder Hernanes powering a 3-0 win over Catania.

The 27-year-old midfielder took his season tally to 10 goals thanks to two fine passes from striker Sergio Floccari as Lazio cruised past their Serie A rivals on Tuesday.

Lazio, who sit eight spots above Catania in Italy's top flight, took the lead in the 30th minute when Lorik Cana's corner was headed home at the near post by Romanian defender Stefan Radu.

Hernanes doubled the home side's lead just after the hour mark when he tapped home Floccari's cutback after the striker burst down the left.

In second-half injury time, Hernanes wrapped up the victory, sprinting onto Floccari's pass to finish past Catania goalkeeper Alberto Frison.

Lazio will meet either Juventus or Milan in the semi-finals.
