Belgian First Division wrap: Anderlecht surge ahead

28 December 2012 00:13

Anderlecht romped to a 4-1 win over Lierse in the Belgian First Division on Thursday to move eight points clear at the top of the table.

The loss thrust another dagger into Lierse's ailing survival hopes and added three more ominous points to Anderlecht's runaway lead.

Dieumerci Mbokani opened the scoring for the hosts at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium before strikes from Milan Jovanovic and Tom De Sutter put the league leaders 3-0 up shortly after half-time.

Mohamed El-Gabbas pulled a goal back for Lierse on the hour mark but Ronald Vargas completed the scoring with Anderlecht's fourth in stoppage time.

Standard Liege moved up to fifth with a comfortable 3-0 win over Beerschot, their fourth in five games.

Michy Batshuayi opened the scoring two minutes into first-half stoppage time before further strikes from left-back Jelle Van Damme and strike partner Imoh Ezekiel wrapped up the points.
