Operation keep ball for Manchester City now as they look to take the life out of this one. A few late challenges are flying in from the Latics as frustration builds amongst the home fans. Wigan really do deserve better for their efforts this evening, the visitors have just been ruthlessly clinical in the second half.

81'

69'
M. Balotelli has scored a goal for Manchester City!
GOAL! Mario Balotelli gets his first Premier League goal of the season! Barry's initial shot was spilled by Al Habsi and the Italian was first to react forcing the Wigan keeper into another save before finding the back of the net at the third time of asking. One-nil to the champions!
68'

65'
Milner's first involvement in the game sees him exchange passes with Aguero before firing across goal. The ball took a deflection of Jones and very nearly fell perfectly for Balotelli. Moments late Aguero gets to the byeline but clips his cross over Balotelli's head.
64'
G. Barry gets yellow.
63'
Barry brings down Gomez after the Spaniard threads the ball through his legs. Cynical one from the England international but he'll take one for the team as Wigan looked threatening on the break.
61'
Martinez must have had a word with his wide men at the break. Beausejour this time delivers a delicious cross into the City area but Gomez can only head into the side netting at the back post. Wigan's delivery in the second half has been superb so far, City are struggling to cope.
59'
J. Milner enters the game and replaces Javi García.

47'
Good start to the second period from the visitors. Balotelli earns a free kick just outside the box after skipping past Lopez's challenge. The Italian took the free kick himself but sent the ball straight into the wall.
46'
Wigan take the kick-off to get us underway for the second half.
Balotelli has a go at goal straight from the kick-off and Al Habsi throws his cap on it, wasteful from the Italian.
45' +2
Jordi Gómez gets yellow.
Chance! Yaya Toure almost gives City the lead right on half-time. The Ivorian drove into the box from the right-side and prodded the ball at Al Habsi when he might have been better off picking out a team-mate.
45' +1
Penalty shout! Jordi Gomez spins on the ball well inside the box before going down under a challenge from Zabaleta. Mike Halsey is right on top of the incident and waves away Wigan's appeals. Tough call to make.
45'
Sloppy is the only way to describe Manchester City's passing in this first period. Credit must be given to Wigan though, they haven't given the the visitors a moment to dwell on the ball.
43'
David Silva misplaces a pass to Aguero and Wigan launch a counterattack. Di Santo picks up the ball deep inside his own half and sets off on a run right up the pitch into the City area before earning Wigan a corner. Brilliant stuff from the Argentine.
41'
Silva floats a ball into the danger area but once again not City team-mate is on the same wavelength as the Spaniard.
39'
Javi Garcia spreads the ball out to Maicon nicely, but the Brazilian tries to lay it off to Mario Balotelli first time and gets it wrong. City win the ball back moments after and this time Balotelli does well to earn a free kick near the byline.
37'
Jordi Gomez, the man in form, has a go with the free kick and only misses the top corner by a yard or do. Decent effort from the Spaniard, Joe Hart was scrambling.
36'
Aguero brings down Gomez about 30 yards away from goal and gives away a free kick to the Latics in a very dangerous position.
35'
Now Wigan are beginning to strut their stuff on the ball, the home fans are loving every minute of this.
33'
Great save! Stam does wonderfully well to ghost past Zabaleta on the right flank before crossing for Kone in the box. The Ivorian makes a dart to his near post and does well to get his head on it, but Hart does equally well to palm it over the bar. It was a good save and it should have been a corner but the referee signals for a goal kick.
31'
City have a couple of corners in quick succession but Wigan defend well and survive the pressure.

The Spaniard advances up the field with Ageuro and Balotelli either side, but his ball to the latter is poor and Wigan snuff out City's momentum.
20'
Aguero has a snap shot from the edge of the area after the but drags it wide of the post.
17'
CHANCE! Beausejour cuts inside from the left flank and aims for Joe Hart's far post with the outside of his left-boot but Kompany makes a good block. The Chilean may have had more success using his right-foot, his manager tells him exactly that on the touchline.
15'
Oof! Kompany ruthlessly knocks Di Santo out of the way as Wigan threatened City on the break. The Argentinian strikes isn't best pleased but the referee lets play continue.
13'
Wigan look sharp and confident in possession in these early stages but their final ball into their forwards has been abysmal. Stam the latest to wastefully send his cross into the stands.

7'

So Wigan take the kick-off and we are underway at the DW Stadium!
Good evening ladies and gents! Welcome to Goal.com's play-by-play coverage of Wigan vs Manchester City from the DW Stadium LIVE!
Manchester City: Hart; Maicon, Kompany, Nastasic, Zabaleta; Y Toure, Barry, Garcia, Silva; Balotelli, Aguero.
Subs: Pantilimon, K Toure, Kolarov, Milner, Sinclair, Tevez, Dzeko.
Wigan are without Shaun Maloney and Ivan Ramis after both picked up knocks against Reading, Franci di Santo and Adrian Lopez come into the starting line-up in their place. Jordi Gomez continues up front after netting a hat-trick at the weekend.
Mario Balotelli, rather than Carlos Tevez, comes in for Edin Dzeko as Roberto Mancini makes three changes from the game against Chelsea. Maicon and Javi Garcia also return to the starting line-up in place James Milner and Aleksandar Kolarov.
So Carlos Tevez is once again only good enough for the bench for Mancini. He obviously didn't read Goal.com's excellent match preview, otherwise he would have known that the Argentine has never scored after coming on from the bench for Manchester City. Infact, he's only ever managed one goal as a substitute in the Premier League; for Manchester United in 2009 against Wigan, obviously.
So the teams have emerged from the tunnel, shortly followed by the fashionably late Mario Balotelli, and we are now moments away from the kick-off.
HALF-TIME: Wigan 0-0 Manchester City
Roberto Martinez will be delighted by his side's efforts in the first 45 minutes. The Latics have been the better side and could possibly have had a penalty late on when Zabaleta brought Gomez down in the box. Mancini meanwhile will be pulling his hair out. The champions have shown very little in terms of creativity and must improve in the second period.
