That's it, it's full time and the game has ended goalless at the Stadium of Light. It's been a very poor 90 minutes of football as neither side really looked like scoring as both keepers were rarely worked. A point will suit Harry Redknapp in his first game as QPR manager, something he will look to build on in current weeks. For Martin O'Neill and Sunderland, it was awful but at least they didn't lose. They'll need to buck up their ideas when they travel to Norwich on Sunday.
90' +3
The ball bounces in the QPR box as Sunderland press but no Black Cats player can get hold of it and Armand Traore hoofs the ball clear.
90' +2
Matt Kilgallon may just have saved Sunderland a point here as he puts in perfect tackle to stop Djibril Cisse in his tracks after the Frenchman got the ball on the edge of the area from a misplaced James McClean pass.
90' +1
Much better from the Black Cats as James McClean does well down the left and forces a cross to the back post with his weaker right foot which Louis Saha nearly gets his head on.
89'
That's shocking from Phil Bardsley as he fires a cross over the bar when under absolutely no pressure. That has just summed up this game. what an awful piece of football.
87'
CHANCE!!! Nearly a breakaway goal for QPR as they drive down the field with Jamie Mackie, he feeds Shaun Wright-Phillips in the box who turns and shoots but Simon Mignolet is there to make the stop.
85'
Frustration again for the Black Cats just as it looks as though James McClean has released Steven Fletcher with a header, the referee Andre Marriner blows for a free kick against the Irishman.
83'
Poor from Stephane Sessegnon as he's put through down the right, he tries to square up Armand Traore but he just runs straight into him. A waste of a opportunity high up the field.
81'
J. Mackie gets yellow.
Good attacking move from QPR as Djibril Cisse feeds Armand Traore whose run 70 yards and drives into the box but Carlos Cuellar is on hand to force the ball out.
79'
Better from Sunderland as they show some urgency as James McClean beats his man before crossing and finding Steven Fletcher. The Scot takes the ball up and appeals for a penalty when it hits Clint Hill. Referee Andre Marriner waves play on and the ball comes to Seb Larsson who shoots but his effort is claimed by Rob Green.
Minute
Description
78'
L. Saha enters the game and replaces C. Gardner.
S. Wright-Phillips enters the game and replaces A. Taarabt.
77'
Not the greatest display of attacking football at the Stadium of Light today. Both teams have been woeful in the final third.
75'
Oh dear Sunderland's problems summed up again in a nutshell. Steven Fletcher feeds Danny Rose, the left-back crosses the ball into the area but no player in red and white is there to meet the ball in the penalty area as three, I repeat, three on stood on the edge of the box.
73'
After that Sunderland burst QPR are trying to slow the tempo again by keeping the ball in the midfield. They're struggling to get the ball into the final third as the Black Cats have looked very solid at the back tonight.
70'
J. McClean enters the game and replaces A. Johnson.
That offside from Adam Johnson is enough for Martin O'Neill to haul the England international off. It's been a disappointing evening for the former Manchester City man.
68'
C. Hill gets yellow.
Sunderland's turn to win a free kick on the edge of the box as Jack Colback's fouled by Clint Hill. Craig Gardner once again steps us and blasts the ball into the wall. In the aftermath Adam Johnson is caught offside.
66'
Stephane Sessegnon fouls Adel Taarabt on the edge of the area and Estaban Granero lifts the ball into the box but Phil Bardsley is there at the back post to make a good headed clearance.
65'
Park Ji-sung enters the game and replaces S. Diakité.
Jamie Mackie does fantastically well to force a corner after being tracked by three men down the right. From the corner Sunderland clear the danger but there was good intent shown by the Scot.
63'
CHANCE!!!! Steven Fletcher's so close to giving Sunderland the lead but Rob Green makes a brilliant save to stop the Scot's header crossing the line as he's down quick to his right stop the ball.
61'
Very slow pace to the game now as QPR are trying to dictate the tempo but they're getting nowhere quickly. Could some subs be around the corner for both teams.
Simon Mignolet has to be alert as the ball falls close to Djibril Cisse in the area as he sticks out a foot to clear the ball luckily it wasn't that important as Cisse was flagged offside.
58'
Stephane Mbia is playing a defensive role but that hasn't stopped him raiding forward and he unleashes a powerful effort at goal which goes just wide. The teams are starting to create chances here.
56'
Sunderland call Rob Green into action for the first time but Steven Fletcher is offside as he looks to connect with Craig Gardner's cross.
55'
S. Diakité gets yellow.
QPR look slick in midfield and they are causing Sunderland some problems in there, as Samba Diakite wins the ball and finds Adel Taarabt on the right. He beats one man and scuffs an effort at goal which is saved by Simon Mignolet but the midfielder isn't happy as he thinks he was fouled.
Adam Johnson is fouled by Samba Diakite and wins a free kick in a decent area but Sebastian Larsson's cross is so poor and doesn't beat the first man.
53'
Sunderland's problems summed up in one move as Carlos Cuellar moved forward with the ball and four players were stood around him stationary. Very poor movement from his Black Cats team-mates there.
51'
Carlos Cuéllar gets yellow.
Carlos Cuellar goes into the book for a cynical challenge on Armand Traore as he looked to run away from the Spaniard. Took one for the team there did Cuellar.
49'
Half-chance for QPR as Armand Traore runs down the right and lifts a cross into the box and finds Estaban Granero but he heads the ball tamely at Simon Mignolet.
48'
Scrappy start to the second half as QPR raids down the right through Jamie Mackie but he can't dig out a cross and loses possession, then Sunderland go on the attack and Adam Johnson can only find Ryan Nelsen with the ball.
46'
R. Green enters the game and replaces Júlio César.
Change for QPR in the second half as Julio Cesar is replaced by Rob Green in goal.
Sunderland get us back underway.
45'
Half time at the Stadium of Light and it's goalless and both teams have struggled to muster chances in front of goal. Harry Redknapp will be quite pleased with that he's seen so far from his new team as they've looked quite solid at the back and decent on the counterattack. Sunderland will need to up their game after the break as they really need three points out of the this fixture and bar one chance for Steven Fletcher they've created nothing.
44'
Better corner from QPR as Samba Diakite rises highest in the penalty area and heads at goal but it's easily claimed by Simon Mignolet.
43'
This game's being played on the counter attack a lot and it seems it will be decided by which team takes advantage of that situation. Adel Taarabt is loving the space and he feeds Jamie Mackie who lofts the ball to the back post but Phil Bardsley is on hand to head behind for a corner.
41'
What a couple of chances they were. Both keepers came up big for their teams there and some nice defensive work too, just shows how important this game is to either side.
40'
CHANCE!!!! Adam Johnson feeds Steven Fletcher who shoots at goal but Julio Cesar makes a great save and Clint Hill is there to mop up the danger before the Scot can pounce on the rebound. Great stuff from both keepers.
38'
CHANCE!!!! Adel Taarabt does brilliantly to play Jamie Mackie through on goal, but Simon Mignolet makes an excellent save. The ball then goes back out to Taarabt who shoots but Carlos Cuellar is on hand to make a block. Again the midfielder is presented with a chance but this time Phil Bardsley makes the stop and the ball is cleared. What a chance that was!
36'
Danny Rose has probably been the best player on the pitch in the first half and hasn't been afraid to push forwards on this occasion he knocks the ball past Jose Bosingwa but just can't get to the ball before it crosses the byline and out for a goal kick.
34'
Frustration creeping in for Sunderland as right-back Phil Bardsley fires a long range effort at goal which doesn't trouble Julio Cesar at all.
32'
Out of the two managers, Harry Redknapp will probably be the most pleased, his side haven't looked shaky at all the back and have looked more decisive going forward compared to the Black Cats.
30'
It's a bit one dimensional at the minute with a lot of long balls being played upfront which isn't help the forwards. Djbril Cisse thought he was in as Estaban Granero hit a pass towards him but Danny Rose was on hand to head the ball back to Simon Mignolet.
28'
Sunderland need to get something going to keep their fans in voice but they are struggling to bring their front men into the game. This time the ball goes long to Stephane Sessegnon but he can't hold the ball under pressure from Ryan Nelsen.
25'
Craig Gardner's free kick is blocked by his own man as the ball blasts off Carlos Cuellar, and going with the flow of the game QPR move upfield on the counter, this however Phil Bardsley stands his ground and wins the ball off Adel Taarabt to stop the move in its tracks.
24'
This time it's QPR's turn to struggle, they can't get a good ball into the box and Sunderland break and win a free kick in a good position on the edge of the penalty area.
22'
Both teams are struggling in the final third, Sunderland are trying to knock the ball around when they get there but don't seem to have the quality to find Steven Fletcher in the box.
20'
Half-chance for Stephane Sessegnon but shoots just wide from just outside the penalty area after Steven Fletcher had done well to beat Clint Hill in the air to force the knockdown.
18'
CHANCE!! Sunderland get men caught upfield and QPR find space which Djibril Cisse nearly capitalises on but he can't as he fires his effort over the bar.
16'
Stephane Sessegnon does well down the right for the Black Cats as he wins a free kick after he's fouled by Samba Diakite. The kick from Adam Johnson is good as it finds Steven Fletcher who heads towards goal but Julio Cesar is on hand to make a good save as he tips the ball over.
15'
Our man Andrew Kennedy at the Stadium of Light says: "Proceedings have started at a promising tempo at the Stadium of Light, with tonight's likely key men - Djibril Cisse, Adel Taarabt, Stephane Sessegnon and Steven Fletcher - all seeing the ball in the opening stages. However, quality in the final ball is still lacking, with both sides failing to make the most of space on the break."
14'
Sunderland are struggling to pick their passes this time one from Phil Bardsley goes astray and Estaban Granero picks it off and launches the ball up to Djibril Cisse who wins a corner as he fires the ball off the legs of Matt Kilgallon.
The corner from Taarabt loops into the area and is well cleared by the Sunderland defence. They've had a few set-pieces so far and most of them have been extremely poor.
12'
Adam Johnson loses possession for Sunderland in the QPR half, the ball goes to Adel Taarabt who finds Djibril Cisse on the edge of the box and his effort is well saved by Simon Mignolet who tips the ball wide.
10'
The corner is cleared by Sunderland and they go straight on the attack themselves with Adam Johnson he gets down the left and puts in a good cross for Steven Fletcher but Stephane Mbia heads the ball behind for a corner.
9'
QPR threaten down the left as Armand Traore raids and puts a cross towards the near post but Carlos Cuellar puts the ball out for a corner.
7'
J. Colback enters the game and replaces L. Cattermole.
Lee Cattermole is forced off with an injury for Sunderland. He was a major doubt before the game and is replaced by Jack Colback.
4'
Sunderland get a free kick 30 yards from goal as Steven Fletcher is fouled, Craig Gardner takes the kick and blasts the ball just wide of the post.
3'
Half-chance for Djibril Cisse but he can't trouble Simon Mignolet as he heads his effort straight into the ground after Adel Taarabt does well to float a cross to the back post.
2'
Sunderland calm the game down with a lot of short passes at the back and when the ball finally does go forward Craig Gardner is caught offside.
1'
QPR get us underway at the Stadium of Light.
QPR make a quick start as Jamie Mackie races down the right and puts a cross into the Sunderland penalty area but Sebastian Larsson is on hand with a big boot to make the clearance.
Hello and welcome to Goal.com's LIVE! commentary of this evening's Premier League clash between Sunderland and QPR from the Stadium of Light. I'm Simon Sinclair and I'll be taking you through all the build-up and action as it happens on Wearside.
TEAM NEWS: QPR: Cesar; Traore, Hill, Nelsen, Bosingwa; Mbia, Diakite, Granero; Taarabt, Cisse, Mackie.
Subs: Green, Derry, Ferdinand, Park, Wright-Phillips, Fabio, Hoilett.
Martin O'Neill has made two changes from his Sunderland team that lost 4-2 to West Brom on Saturday. John O'Shea is injured so Matt Kilgallon replaces him at the back while Jack Colback drops to the bench for Craig Gardner.
STAT ATTACK: OptaJoe states Harry Redknapp has only lost one of his 18 previous Premier League clashes with Martin O'Neill (W10 D7) and is unbeaten in 15 (W8 D7).
New QPR boss Harry Redknapp has made three changes to the Rs side that lost 3-1 to Manchester United at the weekend. Samba Diakite, Estaban Granero, and Jose Bosingwa all come into the team while Ji-Sung Park is fit enough for a place on the bench.
STAT ATTACK: However, QPR haven't won on Wearside in their last five attempts and their last win when travelling to play the Black Cats came in 1991.
The teams are out at the Stadium of Light and we're just about to get underway.
Our man Andrew Kennedy summarises the opening half: "Rain billows down over the Stadium of Light as we reach the interval of what has been an entertaining game so far. Sloppy passing aside, Redknapp's QPR are brimming with confidence, with Adel Taarabt and Djibril Cisse in particular looking busy. The hosts haven't been short of chances either, with Steven Fletcher going close as the opening 45 drew to a close."
