We're off at Southampton - looking forward to this!
Hi everyone my name is Mark Young and I will be covering Southampton Vs Swansea for you today in a game that promises goals and slick passing. Both teams are known for their attacking play with defending generally leaving much to be desired.
Saints' 28 goals conceded so far this season is an all time joint-high for the top flight, while they have leaked 50 goals in a current run of 19 Premier League games without a clean sheet (though several of those were a number of years ago). Furthermore, when played on the south coast this league fixture has never ended as a 0-0 draw and there have been a quite astounding 100 goals scored in 29 meetings between the pair.
Nigel Adkins is the bookies favourite to be the first manager to leave his post this season and the record previously stated regarding goals conceded is partly to blame for that. He could be seen as being the victim of his own success after two promotions back to back.
Luke Shaw starts at left back for Southampton this afternoon and becomes the youngest Southampton player in the Premier League to do so.
Gaston Ramirez is expected to make an impact today but the Saints will have to look out for Michu in a tough home game for Southampton.
Half time at St Mary's where the promise of goals has been lacking but positive signs for the Saints although Swansea have been solid without much attacking intent.
Very impressed by Southampton going forward with Gaston Ramirez already proving that he will be a huge asset for the Saints. Everything that has been good has come through him or Lallana. More of the same from the Saints for the second 45 is needed.
Nigel Adkins may feel the writing is on the wall after chances were missed in the first half and ultimately proved their undoing. Swansea worked hard with Ki in particular outstanding. Try as they might Southampton they couldn't go ahead after the equaliser. A cross between a goal keeping and defensive error cost them dear but how many more times can that be said regarding the South Coast club this season.
