Neither side has managed to record a win in the last five matches, but Swansea have the added problem of being forced to issue strongly worded denials of reports that some players are dissatisfied with Michael Laudrups methods.
The Dane makes major changes to the Swans line-up in leaving Danny Graham on the bench, as he moves Michu further forward to start as a lone centre forward, with wingers Pablo Hernandez and Wayne Routledge either side. Midfielders Ki Sung-Yeung, Jonathan de Guzman, and Leon Britton all start.
Roberto Martinez saw all but Ivan Ramis, Emmerson Boyce, and Franco Di Santo make appearances for for their respective countries over the international break, but will hope his players have recovered for the match and names an unchanged line-up from his last match against Everton.
Halftime is called at the Liberty Stadium. Both sides have enjoyed spells of possession but neither have committed large numbers forward or made runs in behind their opponents' defences. Swansea have had more of the game in both possession and chances, with Michu having a few sights of goal playing further forward than he normally does as the lone striker. Wigan played mainly on the break but had the best individual chance of the game through Shaun Maloney. We can expect to see Danny Graham come on in the second half as the striker is likely to come on at some point in search of a first win in five matches before a difficult run of fixtures.
Full Time at the Liberty Stadium as Michael Laudrup records a vital first win in five games ahead of a very difficult run of fixtures. The Swans controlled the game but were unable to find a way through until the game exploded into life shortly after the hour mark as a lovely exchange was finished expertly by Pablo Hernandez with a smart turn and shot inside the box. Michu headed in from a corner before Emmerson Boyce flicked in a James McCarthy shot amid a chaotic few minutes that was capped off when Arouna Kone was disallowed a heading a left wing cross from the impressive Jean Beausejour. Wigan had finally begun to commit players forward and posed a threat throughout the last half hour and had a string of chances through Franco Di Santo, but Michu battled through tiredness to pose a threat on the counter in conjunction with pacey wingers Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge and striker Danny Graham who had been left on the bench. The game became frantic but the Swans managed to hold on for the win, which will go some way towards calming the tension caused by a run of five games without a win that had forced the denial of a rift in the Welsh team's camp before the game. Wigan's Roberto Martinez will take solace from his side's spirit to spark into life from two goals down but needs to up his game as his side's winless run of five matches was reflected in his team's passive first half display.
