Serie A wrap: Juve, Milan leave it late

25 April 2012 22:59

Juventus and AC Milan both scored late winners as the Serie A season moved a step closer towards completion on Wednesday.

Bottom side Cesena held the undefeated Juventus for 80 minutes before Marco Borriello broke the deadlock, while Milan waited 86 minutes for Kevin Prince Boateng to strike against 10-man Genoa, who earlier had Bosko Jankovic sent off.

The 1-0 results keep second-placed Milan three points behind Juventus with four games to play, while Cesena's defeat sees them relegated from the top flight.

Juventus, who have won 20 and drawn 14 matches this season, next travel to lowly Novara and Milan face Siena away on Sunday.

In other results on Wendesday, Novara kept their slim hopes of Serie A survival alive with a surprise 2-1 win at home to Lazio.

Lazio's Antonio Candreva conceded an own goal on 35 minutes but was relieved as Giuseppe Mascara equalised two minutes later.

Frenchman Mobido Diakite scored the winner in the 79th minute, condemning Lazio to their fifth loss in eight games.

Lazio remain third on the Serie A table but have had their advantage cut to one point, with Napoli breathing down their necks in fourth place, while Novara are in 19th position - still eighth points from safety with only four games remaining.

Slovak Marek Hamsik and in-demand Uruguayan Edison Cavani scored on either side of half time respectively as Napoli outclassed relegation-threatened Lecce 2-1 in Lecce.

The win moved Napoli to fourth ahead of Udinese, who suffered a 3-1 loss at home to Inter Milan.

Wesley Sneijder netted a brace and Ricardo Alvarez added a third before half time after Danilo had opened Udinese's account in the sixth minute.

Fiorentina moved further away from the drop zone with a 2-1 upset of Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

Francesco Totti cancelled out Stevan Jovetic's opening goal before the visitors secured the three points courtesy of Andrea Lazzari in injury time.

Pablo Osvaldo was sent off for Roma, who dropped to seventh behind Inter.

Elsewhere, Siena hosted Bologna in a 1-1 draw while Parma came from a goal down to defeat Palermo 2-1.
