Ligue 1 wrap: Toulouse upset Lyon
Toulouse strengthened their chances of winning a Europa League spot with a 3-0 victory over key rivals Lyon on Wednesday.
The home side entered the Ligue 1 match in seventh place and three points behind fourth-placed Lyon.
But Toulouse took the lead after just nine minutes when Francois Sirieix acrobatically volleyed home inside the penalty area after a Lyon defender failed to clear a cross properly.
Emmanuel Riviere made it 2-0 after 22 minutes when he got on the end of Sirieix's cross to score and Toulouse wrapped up the points in second-half injury time thanks to a delicate chip by Umut Bulut over Lyon's goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Toulouse are now fifth on the French league table - only behind Lyon on goal difference.
In the one other Ligue 1 match on Wednesday, Marseille's horrid second half of the season continued with a 1-1 draw at home to lowly Caen.
Marseille have not won in 11 straight league matches and the visitors took advantage of that poor form to hit the front in the 11th minute through Frederic Bulot.
The home side managed to equalise 15 minutes later when Loic Remy slotted a penalty, but despite having 68 percent possession for the match and 16 shots, Marseille failed to score a winning goal.
Marseille sit 10th on the table with 41 points, while the draw means Caen move up to 15th and a point clear of the relegation zone.
