Ligue 1 wrap: Giroud fires Montpellier to top
Montpellier's 1-0 win over St Etienne moved them back to the top of Ligue 1 while Lille also won to consolidate third spot on Saturday.
The league's top scorer Olivier Giroud fired home his 18th goal of the campaign with a superb volley a minute from time to catapult his side a point ahead of cashed up PSG.
It looked like the visitors would frustrate Montpellier further before Jean-Pascal Mignot's red card on 77 minutes invited a wave of pressure which French international Giroud duly took advantage of.
Lille ran out comprehensive 3-0 winners away to Evian with Eden Hazard, Dimitri Payet and Benoit Pedretti all on the scoresheet.
Belgian star Hazard converted from the spot in the 35th minute and laid on a neat through ball for Payet to score the second 10 minutes after half-time.
Pedretti netted from long range in the 67th minute to seal all three points and put Lille four points clear of Lyon in the last Champions League spot.
Dejan Lovren and Bafetimbi Gomis were on target for Lyon as they beat Sochaux 2-1 at Stade de Gerland.
The win moves Lyon ahead of Toulouse before they play Auxerre on Sunday.
Ajaccio and Lorient shared the spoils in the 1-1 draw as did Nice and Marseille, who had Charles Kabore sent off ahead off ahead of their crucial Champions League quarter-final tie with Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
Brest fell 1-0 at home to Nancy with Bakaye Traore scoring the winner while Valenciennes edged Rennes 1-0 thanks to Gael Danic's 13th-minute penalty.
