KNVB Beker: AZ Alkmaar 2 Heracles 4
Heracles upset AZ Alkmaar 4-2 in extra time to earn a spot in the final of the KNVB Beker for the first time in their history.
After squandering an early lead, Kwame Quansah scored a 66th minute equaliser for Heracles to send the semi-final into extra time, before Thomas Bruns and Ninos Gouriye both scored in extra time to send the visitors into the final, where they will face PSV.
Everton got the visitors off to the perfect start at the AFAS Stadion, the Brazilian attacker putting Heracles ahead after just seven minutes after rising highest to head the ball into the corner of the net.
It took Eredivisie-leaders AZ 13 minutes to come up with an equaliser through Adam Maher, and just two minutes later they were ahead when Icelandic attacker Johann Gudmundsson found the back of the net.
Their ascendancy lasted until just past the hour mark when Ghanaian Quansah bobbed up to net an equaliser for Heracles, and although AZ had several excellent chance late in the match, they could not find a winner.
And they were made to rue those missed chances in injury time, when Bruns streaked clear and beat goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado with a low shot.
Gouriye ensured Heracles finished the match in style with a goal in the final minute as the Almelo-based club secured a history-making win.
