Liga Sagres wrap: Benfica on top, Braga close behind
Benfica go into the international break on top of the Liga Sagres table after a 2-0 win at Nacional on Monday.
Jorge Jesus' side entered the match unbeaten in 14 matches in all competitions and they extended that with their away in Madeira.
Oscar Cardozo's 22nd minute goal handed Benfica the lead and when Nacional's Joao Aurelio was handed a second yellow card just past the hour, the hosts were facing an uphill battle.
But they battled valiantly and they still stood a chance of snatching a point until the fourth minute of injury time, when substitute Bruno Cesar killed the game off with his goal.
Sporting Braga are only goal difference behind Benfica though, after they won 1-0 at Vitoria Setubal.
Helder Barbosa's 81st minute goal was all the visitors needed to claim all three points as they joined Benfica on seven points after three matches.
