Nilmar needed just six minutes to give the home side the lead when he fired past Justo Villar after a fine pass by Damián Escudero.

With few other chances in the first half, the match was reborn three minutes into the second half as Nilmar bagged a second, heading past Villar, who attempted to challenge.

It was 3-0 just nine minutes later when Giuseppe Rossi fired past a hapless Villar, although Diego Costa pulled a goal back just moments later for the visitors.

After spending much of the first part of the season on the bottom of the table, Villarreal now have three wins in four games, and they sit 11th.
