Burnley vs. Aston Villa

Steven Caldwell had put the Clarets ahead in the eighth minute with a header from Robbie Blake's free kick but Heskey came off the Villa bench to level the match by nodding home James Milner's cross with five minutes left.

Villa manager Martin O'Neill saw his team's winless away run extended but was pleased to see Heskey score his first goal of the season.

With just eight minutes gone, the hosts took the lead from a simple set piece. Robbie Blake swung the ball in from the left and Steven Caldwell rose higher than Richard Dunne and guided a header past the on-rushing Brad Friedel.

The hosts continued to enjoy the better of the opening period with Andre Bikey, Stephen Fletcher and Chris Eagles each going close to adding a second.

Moments later Clarets goalkeeper Brian Jensen was almost embarrassed after racing out to the left edge of his penalty area only to miss the ball under pressure from Gabriel Agbonlahor.

The Villa striker laid off a pass for Ashley Young but he curled his shot over as Clarke Carlisle desperately tried to get back.

Tyrone Mears curled a free-kick around the post as Burnley continued to pose the greater threat after the restart and Friedel had to swat away Blake's drive but Martin O'Neill's side would have moved level if Jensen had not managed to get the faintest of touches to Agbonlahor's stab at goal.

Burnley replaced Eagles with the powerfully-built Kevin McDonald while £12million summer signing from Middlesbrough Stewart Downing finally made his debut for Villa after an ankle injury when he replaced Sidwell.

It was the Clarets substitute who made the first contribution, setting up Fletcher for a fierce shot which Friedel tipped over.

Villa manager Martin O'Neill also threw on Heskey for full-back Luke Young late in the game and the England international salvaged a point in the 86th minute.

Milner collected Jensen's weak punch and curled a cross to the far post where Heskey held off Caldwell to head home the equaliser.

The Clarets are looking good for survival despite another frustrating late collapse.
