Report

FC Twente once again proved to be a candidate for the Dutch title with a 1-0 win over Ajax in Sunday's Eredivisie top clash.

Ajax manager Martin Jol had selected Marko Pantelic to spearhead the Amsterdam attack, but the Serbian came off injured after just 15 minutes.

Ajax initially dominated the match and Luis Suarez even hit the cross bar, but things soon calmed down as neither side seemed too willing to pressurize the opposing defense.

The only goal of the match came in the 47th minute. Theo Janssen took a free kick and found Bryan Ruiz, allowing the Costa Rican to head home at the far post.

From that moment, Twente were rarely threatened and professionally defended their lead to remain in first place in the Eredivisie. Ajax are in third position at six points from Twente.
