Lille vs. Bordeaux

Five days after qualifying for the Champions League last 16 with a 2-0 win at Bayern Munich, Laurent Blanc's side ran out of energy at Lille's Stadium Nord. Bordeaux's third defeat of the season means Lyon can move one point clear at the top if it beats Marseille at Stade Gerland in Sunday's late match.

They were on the back foot against a bold Lille side and cracked under pressure with 20 minutes remaining when midfielder Yohan Cabaye fired home after keeper Cedric Carasso had parried a Pierre-Alain Frau attempt.

Midfielder Florent Balmont doubled the tally three minutes from times from the penalty spot after Larsen Toure was brought down in the box by Michael Ciani.

The reigning champions started steadily if unspectacularly, and Yoann Gourcuff's wayward shot on 18 minutes seemed to be an early sighter and a warning of things to come for Lille.

But just three minutes later the home side exploded into life when Yohan Cabaye forced Cédric Carrasso into an outstanding save. That was quickly followed by a dangerous dribble and cross by Gervinho, and only alert defending by Bordeaux prevented Cabaye drilling the ball into the back of the net.

The second half was one-way traffic as Lille poured forward in search of the breakthrough.

In the 57th minute, Eden Hazard released Frau but the striker sent his shot the wrong side of the post with only Carrasso to beat.

Moments later Gervinho found himself in a similar situation but he took too long and eventually missed the target with his close-range effort.

The lively striker then set up Frau for a volley that again failed to test Carrasso.

Finally, Gervinho magic worked in the 69th minute to broke the deadlock when the Ivorian's pass was met by Pierre-Alain Frau. Though Frau's shot was blocked by Carrasso, Cabaye was on hand to hammer home the ball and give his side a 1-0 lead.

Bordeaux pressed hard for the equaliser in the final quarter but Lille held firm and then, Balmont sealed the win with an 87th-minute penalty after Mickael Ciani fouled Larsen Toure.
