Valenciennes vs. Montpellier

Despite a rousing second half display, Valenciennes could not find a way to beat Montpellier. Emir Spahic was sent off two minutes from time for a second bookable offence, but Montpellier held on for the draw.

Having gone three matches without conceding, Valenciennes failed to last even three minutes against Montpellier. Some neat play down the left flank from Karim Ait-Fana resulted in him whipping in a perfect cross for Victor Hugo Montano to attack and head into the net.

Montpellier were creating all of the best chances in the opening half, and Ait Fana tried his luck from long range with a shot which flew just over the bar.

Valenciennes were stirred into some kind of action. Though VA did not allow Montpellier any kind of scoring opportunities, they did not have a clear sight of goal themselves.

This changed quickly after the break, when Renaud Cohade’s powerful drive cannoned off the post and rebounded kindly for Carlos Sanchez, who had no problems rolling the ball into the net.

Both sides struggled to create any clear chances from then on, substitute Jacques Abardonado firing wide on 69 minutes after Fahid Ben Khalfallah's free-kick came back off the wall.
