Report

FC Groningen avoided a third consecutive defeat in the Eredivisie and did so in style, beating Heracles Almelo 4-1 on Friday.

Heracles started well at Euroborg stadium, scoring the opening goal in the 14th minute. Douglas provided a cross from the right and Bas Dost headed home at the far post.

Groningen didn't need long to recover though. A long ball from Sankoh ended up in front of Leandro Bacuna, and the latter beat the opposing goalkeeper for the equalizer just five minutes after Heracles' goal.

And Groningen got a second a few minutes before the break. Fledderus handed the ball in the penalty area and Andreas Granqvist's low penalty left keeper Pieckenhagen stranded.

Groningen then netted a third in the 71st minute. Ajilore headed the ball into the area and Tim Matavz got there in time to make it 3-1.

The fourth and final goal came eight minutes later, as Matavz netted his second in the aftermath of an Enevoldsen corner kick.
