Grenoble vs. Montpellier

In their previous home game, it took Grenoble less than 30 seconds to fall behind. Here they lasted little long as a poor clearance in the second minute from Milivoje Vitakic was pounced upon by Joris Marveaux, who setup Victor Hugo Montano to open the scoring.

Just as GF38 seemed to have steadied themselves after the opening blow, a second soon arrived. Again it was a simple goal that came about courtesy of sloppy defending, Nenad Dzodic nipping in ahead of Danijel Ljuboja to head home Alberto Costa’s free kick on 12 minutes.

Only one minute into the second period, Grenoble grabbed a lifeline. They had already threatened through Pierre Boya, but Ljuboja converted a fine cross from Laurent Courtois on 47 minutes to give them real hope.

Somewhat inevitably, this was short lived. Immediately Montano threatened, though his shot was blocked wide for a corner. This simply delayed Montpellier’s third by a few seconds, with Dzodic rising to head his second of the game.

Stunned by this goal, Grenoble were unable to offer any kind of really meaningful response, with Sofiane Feghouli’s late drive, which was touched away by Geoffrey Jourdren, something of a death rattle. They mustered a late consolation through Nicolas Dieuze, but the game was already lost.
