Milan vs. Zürich

Without the injured Thiago Silva, Leonardo was forced to insert Kakha Kaladze into the centre of the defence and also opted to start with Marek Jankulovski instead of Gianluca Zambrotta at left-back. Mathieu Flamini was preferred to Gennaro Gattuso in the midfield role.

While, Zurich coach Bernard Challandes was forced into a serious attacking change after Eric Hassli broke his leg in training and asked midfielder Dusan Djuric to support striker Johan Vonlanthen.

Milan made a sluggish start but were dominating by the tenth minute.

Unfortunately, the Swiss won a corner which was swung half-hit into the box where an unmarked Hannu Tihinen switched legs and scissor-volleyed the ball past Storari to make it 1-0.

And for the next 35 minutes, Zurich played inspired football with a lot of self belief.

While, Milan spent the rest of the half playing a high line, pushing forward and nearly getting caught on the break. The danger being never more apparent when Vonlanthen broke down the right at pace and pulled the ball back to Margairaz who shot just over.

With Storari's decent saves, Milan's deficit was 1-0 at half time, especially just before the break.

Leonardo made immediate changes at the interval with Zambrotta coming in for Flamini, and Ronaldinho for Seedorf.

The Rossoneri's looked determined in the second-half as Pato and Pirlo spear-headed the attack.

Ronaldinho continued to provide chances of leveling scores as both Pato and Inzaghi failed to convert the Brazilian's moves.

On the other hand, with Nesta off injured, Milan also looked more vulnerable to concede with the visitors threatening via counter-attacks.

With time not on their side, the Rossoneri's continued to pressure the visitors goal with frequent chances that led to Zambrotta even hit the woodwork in the last few seconds of injury time.

However, the uninspired Milan side looked thoroughly beaten, and now stay third in the standings of their Group C, behind Real Madrid and FC Zurich.
